Street (and Piste) Art in Courchevel

Travel & Tourism
If you spot something strange out on the slopes in Courchevel this season, don’t be alarmed; it’s probably just one of the art installations featured in this year’s L’Art au Sommet exhibition.

Held in partnership with Galleries Bartoux, a number of edgy contemporary street artists have installed their work in and around the resort for 2017.

You’ll find sculptures of penguins, bears, gorillas and tigers in surprising places around the village as well as installations by Julien Marinetti and Richard Orlinkski, which will be placed on the piste at the top of the Saulire, Chenus and Vizelle lifts.

As well as their quirky sculpture installations, ten of the artists have been given free reign to use their street art talents to decorate the famous Verdons gondolas which swoop down into the centre of Courchevel 1850.

And that’s not all – street art has brightened up the post boxes of the Forum opposite the Courchevel Tourism office, and huge fabric canvases have been decorated by internationally renowned street artists and draped around town. Street artists including Gully, Mr. Brainwash, Noé two, JonOne, Seen, Madc, Hopar, Akhine, Nowart, Cope2 and Miss Tic, have all supplied artwork for the exhibition.

Street Art Tours

In order to get the most out of the L’Art au Sommet exhibition, the Courchevel Tourist Office is offering free art tours. The tours will run weekly throughout the peak season and will be led by a guide who is also a lecturer at the Pays d’Art et d’Histoire des Hautes Vallée de Savoie.

Tours will meet at the Tourist Office at Courchevel 1850 and will take in all accessible art from the exhibition. The tour lasts a maximum of two hours. It is free but as spaces are limited, it is well worth reserving your place in advance.

There will also a be a chance to watch some of the artists at work with live exhibitions in which the street artists create works right in front of your eyes. Held in the centre of Courchevel 1850 at La Croisette, urban artists JonOne, Seen and Noé Two will create works in front of a live audience on dates throughout February, March and April.
