If you’re looking for a resort where you and the lads can combine a bit of skiing and snowboarding with a load of drinking and having fun, then the French resort of Morzine may be just what you’re looking for. You know what it’s like trying to pick a resort when there’s loads of you – ‘Flash Dave’ will only ski black runs and off piste while ‘Cautious Kevin’ has only skied once before and won’t try anything above a blue. Well, you can relax, because this resort is part of the huge Portes du Soleil skiing area where all levels of skiers can find runs perfect for them. But while you may not all want to ski together (after all, not everyone wants to follow Flash Dave off the side of a cliff), you will all be able to play together. Morzine is famous for its nightlife or ‘après ski’ scene so you’ll find plenty of lively bars, clubs and pubs to keep you all happy and topped up on the local 8 per cent lager. Partying in Morzine You don’t have to wait until late for the so called ‘après ski’ to begin, because here the bars open at around 3pm. From then on it’s a blur of live music, bustling bars, sporting events on big screens and, eventually – if you’re still standing – dancing until dawn in the resort’s two nightclubs. There are so many great bars that the best way to discover them is to head out on a pub crawl with your mates – but here are some I’d recommend to make sure you don’t miss out. • Bar Robinson ‘Robbos’ is something of an institution here and a must for those looking to try the local 8 per cent Mutzig lager. This is all they have on tap here so it’s a great place to kick off a pub crawl. • Chez Roger’s This place has the atmosphere of a really good pub: friendly, lively and lots of great booze served up by the bar’s welcoming owner. • Le Crepu Up the tempo at the bustling Crepu – this is where the night really starts to kick off. • The Tibetan Café For late night/early morning drinking and some banging tunes played by the local DJ, the Tibetan Café is definitely one to put on your list. • Coyote Bar This is a great place for a lads’ night out as it combines video arcade games, music and drinking – who could ask for more? • The Cavern A great place to end up, The Cavern is probably the party capital of the resort, with endless shots being served while DJs play party tunes and the screens show extreme skiing videos. How to Get to Morzine Getting to Morzine is easy from nearby airports including Geneva, Chambéry, Lyon or Turin. The most popular airport for Morzine is Geneva which is served by a good range of budget airlines.
