Black’s law dictionary is commonly used law dictionary in the United States. The black’s law dictionary was founded by Henry Campbell Black in 1860 to 1927. The first edition of the black’s law dictionary was published in 1891 while the second edition was published in 1910. The eighth edition of the black law dictionary introduced a unique system of the perpetually updated cases citations and the cross-reference to the legal encyclopedias. In 2009 the ninth edition was published. It is used as a reference of choice of terms in legal briefs and the court opinions. Black’s law dictionary is used as the secondary legal authority in most of the United State Supreme Court cases. The dictionary gives the pronunciation of the words even those derived from Latin. Eighth edition online version is accessible through the paid Westlaw legal information services.
