What The Locals Know About Washington County, Texas — And You Should, Too

Travel & Tourism,Advice,Consumer
Every local population would like to believe that their little town has the best to offer on all fronts. The state of Texas has plenty of these little towns, but few come together like the ones you’ll find in Washington County, Texas and tell a collective story about how special this part of the Lone Star State truly is and how much they hope you can be a part of things.

It is this welcoming attitude that sets Washington County apart from just about any other county in Texas. Sure, plenty of campaigns are in place and pushed along by the respective chambers of commerce, but for the folks in this part of east Texas, welcoming folks is what it is all about. A quick look at the area’s official website notes ten hotels, which seems like a fairly basic amount of accommodations. However, where things get interesting is that the area also boasts over forty bed & breakfast and vacation rentals. To most people, this little stat might not mean a whole lot, but for the seasoned traveler, it means one thing — visitors are not only welcome, they also comprise a major economic impact. In other words, tourism is big.

Naysayers and cynics might think that this is nothing more than a big ploy for financial assistance from visitors, but that’s not quite the case here. Washington County has plenty of stories to tell. Usually, you’d think that the idea of a small Texas town would be nothing more than hitching posts, a general store, and simple country folk. Washington County does more than dispel this antiquated image of Texas — it makes it kick rocks.

A quick look at a map will show a prospective visitor that big cities (Austin and Houston) are no more than a quick day-trip drive away, which means you’re always near the action but just far enough to get past the urban noise. Washington County is also on the forefront of technological moves forward when it comes to exploring its scenic routes (Highway 290 is absolutely gorgeous) either by a proprietary app or by way of geocaching. The area is also gaining a reputation for being a major player in the art world, and being home to award-winning wineries (the Wine Trail is not to be missed).

Finally, even though Washington County, Texas could be thought of as being a little rural, it takes pride in inviting “city folk” out to the country to reconnect with nature. Check in regularly on the area’s Wildflower Watch to find the perfect time to see Texas come to life in color. Also, it’s the perfect place to consider for your next reunion, major event, or corporate gathering as there are plenty of venues for the number of attendees you need to accommodate. It’s the perfect backdrop for team building, family fun, and just the right rustic touch to the perfect special event in your life.

Can’t get enough of Washington County, Texas? Check in with the Brenham/Washington County CVB for a wealth of info on this amazing area of the Lone Star State.
