We all need a little escape from life every now and again, and Menorca, part of Spain’s beautiful Balearic Islands, is the perfect place to do just that. Find Your Bliss in Fabulous Fornells There are so many places from which to choose around the island, but if you’re looking for an authentic and very relaxed, local vibe, renting a villa in Fornells will provide you with an idyllic base from which to discover the island’s delights. Located in the north of the island, it’s easy to get to (it’s around half an hour from the airport) but very hard to leave. What to See and Do This is the perfect place to immerse in a bit of local life, simply by wandering around the quaint streets or taking a gentle hike around the surrounding coastline and countryside. This lovely little fishing village has all the hallmarks of its island traditions, with lovely whitewashed houses spilling down to a palm tree-lined harbour. From your villa in Fornells you’ll be able to explore all the town has to offer at a leisurely pace. Naturally, one of the biggest attractions is the opportunity to get out and sun yourself on some of the island’s beautiful beaches – and there are plenty to choose from in the area. Some of the best, close by, include Cala Tirant, Cala Pregonda and the lovely Cala Pudenta. Around the bay in the town itself you can go windsurfing, kayaking or sailing, with the perfect conditions providing a wonderful way to explore the coast. The bay is quite sheltered, so kayaking around its four-kilometre length is a pure joy. You can also head out on one of the numerous sailing excursions and, for the ultimate experience, book onto a sunset cruise. Bliss. For the history lovers, staying in a villa in Fornells also puts you on the doorstep of the ruins of the Castell de Sant Antoni, which dates back to the seventeenth century. It’s from this fortress that the village itself sprang up, so it’s well worth taking a wander around and imagining life as it was back then.
