6. Lessons from the French Revolution for America
March 31, 2013

When the French people overthrew their feudal government beginning in 1789 they aligned to the slogan, “Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite” (ou en Anglais): Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity. Equality (doing away with privilege) was the most important part of the slogan, and to obtain equality the revolutionists were willing to sacrifice liberty and brotherhood, which they did when they accepted the rule of Napoleon Bonaparte who in 1804 dropped all pretense of a constitutional republic and declared himself Napoleon I, Emperor of France. Could such an overbearing, insidious system of gov... (read more)

12. The United States or Just America
August 07, 2012

Does the United States actually exist as the country we once knew, or is this nation really just some sort of transitional nation which is or will be called America? The concept of our founding fathers, obviously, was to create a Constitutional Republic where men could pursue their dreams and live a life free from the twisted whims of tyrants. Of course, as we all know, nothing man-made lasts forever and it appears that dream is either dead or dying and at a rapid pace. I believe what we now have, is exactly what the framers fought to rid themselves of, a dictatorship run by petty demagogues i... (read more)

April 24, 2012

We Must Restore "One Nation Under God" by Michael D. Hume, M.S. America was founded as a Constitutional republic, with the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Two hundred years ago this year, the former colonists were forced to fight their "second war for independence," dubbed "The War of 1812," in which they threw off the British yoke for good. But the nation, still bitterly divided over the issue of slavery (an evil with which many nations were still dealing at the time), required a bloody civil war to finally establish itself as the "shining city on a hill" it has become. ... We self-proclaim ourselves to be a "constitutional republic"; however, it appears as though the lawmakers have completely forgotten about each terms, 'constitutional' also as 'republic'. At this time, the expense of every little thing is rising at an alarming rate; or, superior put as, the value of dollars is depleting! The... (read more)

20. Progressivism Isn't Progress, XII
February 21, 2012

America Is Best On A Project Basis by Michael D. Hume, M.S. Here's the last in a twelve-part series about progressivism. This century-plus-old movement seeks a slow "evolution" of America from a Constitutional republic to a collectivist authoritarian state (as opposed to the sort of bloody "revolution" which accomplished essentially the same thing in the former Soviet Union and elsewhere). Progressivism is not collective statism itself, but the method being employed to bring collective statism to prominence. And since the American free-market republic has created more worldwide st...
