Try checking out that competition in that category. See what big Asian companies are marketing mouse pads for. They are going to be your main competitors. In case you’ll steer away from them and target the smaller market within decent margins, study the local competition for the said product. April 24, 2017

3. What Banner Materials Can Be Printed As Media Displays
December 07, 2016

LAST UPDATED ON: June 21, 2019 One of the most common materials utilized to be printed on as graphic displays is vinyl. It is otherwise called as PVC or polyvinyl chloride. There are other available plastic items that can be used too, which are also petroleum-based. The Vinyl Material Vinyl, for one, is based on petroleum product. It embodies the so-called plasticizer which is pliable and able to roll smoothly on printers. Most digital and screen printers have used PVC for three decades now. There is another type of plastic material that is used on banners that are disp... (read more)

6. Improve Your Marketing Campaign with Dye Sublimation Banners
March 16, 2016

LAST UPDATED ON: December 6, 2018 Dye Sublimation may, at first, sound like a very unpleasant sort of experience one might encounter, but it’s actually a new printing technique that is leaving vinyl banners in the dust. Why is Dye Sublimation better than digital printing on vinyl? Allow me to explain. The Fabric of Choice Unlike vinyl, polyester fabric is used to create Dye Sublimation Banners. The dye actually sinks into the porous fabric, becoming one with it. This method has staying power color-wise that vinyl just can’t stack up to. When digital printing is done on vin... (read more)

7. Best Location to Position Your Advertising Banners
May 19, 2015

LAST UPDATED ON: September 1, 2018 I need to give a multi-faceted considerations as there's a lot more than just placing banners where they can be seen. For instance, do your potential clients even need or want what you are offering? Or do you need to educate them on why they need what you're introducing to the market? Marketing is often thought of as part of the sales process, and to a degree it is, but in reality, marketing is the research that should be preliminary to the sales process, and hanging your banners may either be part of the marketing process, or part of the sales pr... 8. Dye Sublimation Banners vs. Vinyl Banners - Which is Superior
May 06, 2015

LAST UPDATED ON: September 1, 2018 Dye sublimation banners and vinyl banners are both superior in certain applications, and both inferior in other applications. It would be similar, I think, to ask whether a car or a pickup truck is superior. The answer would be similar. Yes. And no. A pickup truck is great if you need to haul a bed or a couch or a dresser or a fridge, but not as good to commute to your office job downtown or go on a date or drive cross-country in comfort without needing to haul a heavy load (although still usable for these travel needs). A car is not too good on a... (read more)

9. How are Dye Sublimation Banners being Used Commercially
April 13, 2015

LAST UPDATED ON: August 7, 2018 There are quite a number of applications for dye sub printing on fabric/cloth, most of which are commercial at some level, although some products like shirts end up on retail store display racks and shelves. Commercially, though, where an end user is using the actual printed fabric, there are still a lot of applications we can talk about. However, for those who are new to this discussion, let me first re-explain what dye sublimation printing is and how it's done. I enjoy this topic, and for me it keeps it fresh in my mind to go over it every month or ... (read more)

10. How to Install Dye Sublimation Cloth Banners onto Stands or Trade Show Display Frames
January 27, 2015

LAST UPDATED ON: July 30, 2018 There are many different apparati for utilizing dye sublimation printed fabrics. The simplest method is, of course, to hang a print similar to how you'd hang a banner - by tacking it to a wall or hanging it from grommets and using screws or nails to attach it to a wall. Using a Hanging Rod with a Fishing Line After that, the next easiest method to hang a banner would be to use a hanging rod with fishing line, wire, string, or rope (depending on the size and weight of your hanging bar/banner combo. This method will typically require that you ... (read more)

11. How Direct to Garment Printing Works
December 30, 2014

LAST UPDATED ON: June 17, 2018 What is DTG Printing DTG is an acronym for Direct to Garment printing. Other terms for this include, but are not limited to, digital direct to garment printing, inkjet to garment printing, and digital apparel printing. The DTG printing process involves printing directly to textiles or clothing with a modified inkjet printer that is specifically designed to print garments. It requires a specialized platen and inks that are formulated specifically for cloth textile printing. These inks are printed directly to the fabric, unlike dye sublimation textile ... (read more)

12. Are Poplin Fabric Banners Durable Enough as Parade Displays?
December 14, 2014

LAST UPDATED ON: May 30, 2018 I'm assuming you're using a polyester poplin material for the banner as that's the only poplin banner material that can be printed with dye sublimation printing? Secondly, what exactly are you planning to do with this banner in the parade that might worry you about durability!? The Polyester Fabric Polyester fabrics are generally pretty durable, and for use in a parade, I can't think of any reason or usage, rain, snow, sun, or whatever, that would hurt a polyester poplin fabric banner. The dye sub print process permanently infuses the poly fa... (read more)

13. How to Set Up Pop Up Trade Show Displays and Fabric Graphics Installation
December 08, 2014

Attaching Dye Sublimated Fabric Banners on Display Frames There are several ways that printed fabric banners are attached to trade show display frames; I'll list them below. One method is the pullover method where the dye sub fabric graphic is pulled over top of the frame like a sock. It is sewn together on the top, and sometimes will have another rectangle of fabric added on the top if it is going over a frame with a rectangular foot print. This method is often used with "serpentine" displays and also on trade show booth tables/kiosks. The advantage to this style of display is ... (read more)

14. Can You Do Dye Sublimation Printing on Cotton and Snowboard Surfaces?
November 03, 2014

LAST UPDATED ON: May 9, 2018 Is Dye Sublimation Applicable on Snowboards Dye sublimation can be used on any surface where polymeric treatment of a substrate can be successful, from mugs to glass to snowboards. Because it is the polymers that are the basis of dye sublimation, if a substrate can retain the polymeric treatment on its surface, that substrate can be dye sub printed. Plastics, glass, wood, stone, metal... anything with a smooth surface that will accept the various sprays available for treating a substrate in preparation of this kind of printing. The way that this w... (read more)

15. Best Printing Method that Produces Top Quality Photographic Prints
October 23, 2014

LAST UPDATED ON: May 3, 2018 Off the cuff, dye sublimation would be my first answer, but that's not very thorough of an answer because there are different substrates for different uses, and each has its own special ink set. Plastic Signs For instance, if you need a polyethylene OSHA warning sign, you are not going to be using dye sublimation. You'll either screen print or use a flatbed digital printer, most likely an inkjet printer that uses liquid solvent inks. If you need a lot of signs, screen printing will probably be the most cost-effective method, unless it is a 4 colo... (read more)

16. Is It a Must to Use Polyester Fabric in Dye Sublimation Printing of T-Shirts?
September 27, 2014

LAST UPDATED ON: March 21, 2018 There has been a lot of experimentation with various natural fibers and mixed natural fibers (like the 50/50 cotton tee), and for the most part, it is best, when using true dye sublimation printing on fabric, to use polyester fabrics. Some have reported success with the 50/50 cotton tees, but most prefer to use available digital printers that have the proper inks for adhering to cotton, or screen-print inks which are also formulated for cotton or 50/50 t-shirts. It is important to understand how dye sublimation printing works to be able to justi... (read more)

17. Dye Sublimation or Screen Printing: Which is Better?
June 29, 2014

LAST UPDATED ON: February 1, 2018 Without thinking about the cost, which is better - dye sublimation or screen printing? While you could, in theory, print a fabric banner using screen printing equipment (t-shirts are most often screen printed and they're made of cloth), the wider variety of things you can screen print cannot be printed using the dye sublimation printing process. Primarily Used on Polyester Fabrics Here's a short explanation to back up what I'm saying. Dye sublimation banner or display printing is almost exclusively done on polyester fabrics, whether it's ... 18. Fabric Banner Sizes, Thickness, and Installation
June 17, 2014

LAST UPDATED ON: January 23, 2018 How thick are fabric banners? Fabric or Cloth Banners are not generally measured by the thickness of the material like many graphic substrates are, such as polyethylene, paper, or corrugated plastic. Rather, it is measured either by weight per square yard or square meter. You will commonly hear or read when researching cloth banners that it is a 9 oz. or a 250 gsm material. This refers to the weight of the fabric only, and thickness isn't factored because fabric is variegated in thickness naturally. Various fabrics are different weights, and ... (read more)

19. Indoor Vs. Outdoor Banners - Image Print Resolution
May 14, 2014

LAST UPDATED ON: January 14, 2018 How Indoor banners Differ from Outdoor Banners Generally, a banner that can be used indoors can also be used out-of-doors. However, there are some differences in construction that should be noted if you know that your banner is going to be used out-of-doors. With an indoor banner, we generally assume that there will be very little wind to affect the banner, so finishing can be done fairly simply, or not at all in the case of fabric banners. With dye sublimation printed cloth banners, the polyester can be hot knife cut to seal the edges so that ... (read more)

20. Using Pantone Colors on Banner Signs and Readable Dimensions for the Lettering
March 04, 2014

LAST UPDATED ON: December 6, 2017 Is it possible to print using the Pantone Matching System (PMS) colors on banners or posters? The answer to this question is generally "yes." Most printing equipment today, which includes screen printing, offset printing (lithographic printing), dye sublimation fabric printing, flexographic printing, and digital printing, to name a few, are capable, some at the entry of the PMS number into the printer's computer, to get within 1 or 2% of the PMS color specified. The Only Exceptions Exceptions to this are screen printing and some digi... (read more)

21. Dye Sublimation Printing Ink and Paper: UV Protection and Ecosystem Effect
January 27, 2014

LAST UPDATED ON: November 2, 2017 Do you use special paper for dye sublimation? Yes. It's called "dye sublimation transfer paper," or just plain "dye sublimation paper." Not terribly original, I know. The paper is treated to accept sublimation dye images in the CMYO (similar to CMYK, except the K, or black, is replaced with O, which stands for the overprint which creates black). This paper is matched up to a polymeric fabric (polyester), and run through a heat press which operates around 400 F. As it passes through the pressurized and heated rollers, the dye changes to a ga... (read more)

22. How to Attach Trade Show Booth Graphics to Pop Up Frames, Plus, Front Runner Fabrics
January 16, 2014

LAST UPDATED ON: May 3, 2019 Question: I'm new to trade show booths and graphics, and I was curious as to how the fabric display graphics attach to the pop up frames? There are three main ways that dye sublimation printed fabric graphics attach to pop up displays. The first way, and probably the most common way, is for the fabric to have loop Velcro tabs sewn on the back side of the graphic around the edges of the fabric. Then the frame will have adhesive tabs that match up to the tabs on the fabric, and after you've popped up the frame you simply match the tabs to each o... (read more)

23. Banners: Wind Slits, Dye Sublimation VS DSG, Why Others Look Cheap
January 01, 2014

LAST UPDATED ON: April 24, 2019 Do outdoor graphics require wind slits? This is a favorite topic of mine as there are so many misconceptions about wind slits or wind pockets being cut into banners. Wind pockets allow about 4-5% wind load reduction on vinyl banners, which, in our opinion, is negligible and makes the banners weaker and uglier. Quite frankly, I think wind slits in outdoor vinyl banners are just ugly. With little benefit. If you want to hang a banner in a high wind area, you would be better to sew beefy nylon ropes into the hems, or thread a cable through pol... (read more)

24. Is Dye Sublimation Fabric Printing Suitable for Trade Show Banner Displays
December 04, 2013

Question: We are designing a trade show booth, and would like to know if dye sublimation banners would be suitable for the boot backdrop? Answer: Yes. Not only would it be suitable, it would be the most attractive backdrop, in our opinion, that money can buy. And not that much money any more, as the price of dye sublimation printed fabric comes down to more affordable levels. It is our belief that if you use dye sublimate fabric banners, displays, backdrops, whatever you can do with dye sub printed fabrics, that your product or service will have an underlying quality that will be sub... 25. The Difference Between Dye Sublimation Printing and Screen Printing
November 13, 2013

LAST UPDATED ON: April 16, 2019 What is the difference between dye sublimation and screen printing? The two styles of printing are markedly different. The similarities are that both are printed on substrates and both produce an image. Aside from that? Not so much. The Process of Screen Printing The screen-printing process uses a very labor intensive set up that you don't have with dye sublimation printing. I'll walk you through the screen printing process as I know it quite intimately, since this is where I began my career in the graphics business. Central to ... (read more)
