3. Florida Bank to Offer First Credit Cards for Use in Cuba

A small regional Florida bank is making history. Stonegate Bank is issuing the first credit card that can be used in Cuba since Washington and Havana normalized relations. "In the past, everyone's had to use cash, which is difficult. ... It's dangerous. It doesn't really make a lot of sense," Stonegate CEO David Seleski said Tuesday in Havana. "By having a credit card now, people will be able to use corporate travel down here, just like any other country." The card will be a limited-edition MasterCard. Cubans and Cuban-Americans can now travel to and from the Caribbean island by cruise ships, according to a statement Friday by Cuban state-run media. The Cuban government authorized, starting April 26, Cuban residents to enter and leave as passengers of cruise ships. Carnival cruise lines says it will allow Cuban-born passengers to book travel to Cuba, but will delay trips if the island's government does not change its policy allowing nationals to return by sea. The U.S.-based leisure company had planned to start cruises from Miami, Florida, to Cuba on May 1 following the historic restoration of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
