1. Texas Students Now Can Bring Guns to College Classrooms
August 02, 2016

Certain licensed gun holders are now allowed to carry concealed handguns into Texas’ public college classrooms after a new law went into effect on Monday. Supporters of the controversial measure say it can help prevent mass shootings, while critics claim it could endanger safety on school campuses. The "campus carry" law, pushed by the Republican legislative majority and Texas Governor Greg Abbott, made Texas among a small group of states that allow students to carry concealed handguns on campus. The law took effect on the 50th anniversary of a shooting rampage at t... (read more)

2. University of Texas Observes 50th Anniversary of Tower Shooting
August 01, 2016

AUSTIN, TEX.— It was hot in Austin Monday and the sky was blue, just as it had been on that Monday 50 years ago when people started dropping to the ground. On August 1, 1966, it took people a while to realize that someone was shooting at them from 70 meters up, on the observation deck of the tower that was the emblematic structure on their campus. He killed more than a dozen and wounded more than 30 others before police killed him. As VOA’s Greg Flakus reports from Austin, Texas, there is now a memorial beneath the tower to honor those who died.... (read more)

4. What’s It Like to Be Young and Muslim in America?
June 28, 2016

WASHINGTON— The nation’s 3.3 Muslims account for roughly 1 percent of the U.S. population, but, in the wake of terrorist attacks, they’ve disproportionately dominated news. Deadly mass shootings in California in December and in Orlando, Florida, on June 12 – committed by assailants claiming loyalty to the Islamic State group – have generated calls for identity cards or blocking Muslim refugees from entering the country. They've built on suspicions dating to the September 11 attacks of 2001, increasingly distorting the image of American Muslims and subjecting a... (read more)

6. Gun Controls Stopped Mass Shootings in Australia, Say Researchers
June 23, 2016

SYDNEY— An Australian study has found that tough gun laws enacted 20 years ago have prevented mass shootings and cut rates of firearm-related murders and suicides.  The measures were introduced following the Port Arthur massacre on the island state of Tasmania in 1996. From the late 1970s until 1996, Australia experienced 13 mass shootings in which 104 people died. But research published Thursday in the Journal of the American Medical Association has shown there have been no mass shootings in Australia since strict gun controls were enacted 20 years ago. June 15, 2016

WASHINGTON— The weekly British TV program “Sky Press Preview” is supposed to be a relatively sedate look at the week’s top news as reflected in the nation’s newspapers, sprinkled with a bit of opinion. But in the emotional wake of the mass shootings at Orlando’s Pulse gay nightclub, opinion quickly boiled over into shouting and recriminations on this week's show. Gay British columnist Owen Jones was trying to explain how many in the LGBT community saw the massacre as a direct assault specifically targeting them.  “It was an intentional atta... (read more)

He was the subject of two separate FBI investigations. He beat his wife so badly that her family had to come to Florida and rescue her. The Pasadena Star featured a typical headline on December 7, 2015 which read “We will prevail – Obama vows to destroy Isis, calls for better gun control” Mr Obama’s response to the San Bernardino mass shootings, was less than anyone could of hoped for, but while we will never get used to radical Muslim attacks on Americans we will also never get used to the Muslim mitigating President who still claims that the slaughter of Americans, French and others the world over is being done by the few, the radical and the mis-guided Muslims in our world.
