November 01, 2016

The number one risk factor for stunting in children under five years old is poor growth in the womb, according to a new study.  Investigators at Harvard University's Chan School of Public Health say more emphasis should be placed on pregnant women to eliminate stunting, a major cause of economic hardship in developing countries.  The primary causes of stunting typically are thought to be environmental exposures after birth, such as malnutrition, infectious disease and...... 483. Making Safety Cool
October 31, 2016

Parents and teachers all know that children are more likely to do something because their friends are all doing it than because they’re being told to do it. This goes with dressing for safety as well. Wearing bright orange reflective clothing is not seen as a cool thing to do by any kid, so how can parents and teachers get children to wear children’s high vis clothing? By making it a fashion statement. It’s been done before. During the early 2010s the neon colors of the 1980s made a big comeback. From the catwalk on models, to the playground on children. High vis clothing doesn’t necessar... (read more)

October 28, 2016

Islamic State has used tens of thousands of people as "human shields" in and near the city of Mosul against advancing Iraqi forces, the U.N. human rights office said Friday. 488. Why Special Me?
October 27, 2016

Why Special Me – for IVF Families? Why an IVF children’s book? About six years ago, I was in the same position a lot of IVF parents find themselves. Without warning, a regular, ordinary, rather boring, healthy 30 years of age - being told that I would need to undergo IVF to increase my chances of having a child, I did not consider writing a children’s book at that time – I guarantee! My husband (or the “ball & chain” as I like to refer to him) and I chose to keep this time of our lives relatively private. I had seen the world comment and pass judgement on others who were undertaki... (read more)
