Memorable Quote 1: Mistakes I've made from not learning from mistakes I've made
Author Comment / Biography: I began my flying career in Italy as a corporate pilot for a kitchen furniture factory in Trieste. Later I flew for a shipping company in Genoa flying to ports throughout the Mediterranean. After a brief period as an instrument flight instructor, I qualified for an FAA airline transport pilot license and I took up my first airline flying position in Sana'a, Yemen Arab Republic, as it was known then.
I hold a bachelor of science (cum laude) degree in professional aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fl., U.S.A.
After graduation I worked for the Australian national flag carrier for six years as a ground instructor, where I trained company pilots in normal and non-normal procedures in the Boeing 747 classic and Boeing 767 flight simulators. I also taught Boeing 767 aircraft performance in the classroom.
Subsequently, I flew for several airlines based in the Far East and Europe. I am type qualified in the Boeing 727, Lockheed L1011, and Boeing 747-400 series aircraft.
After I lost my first class medical certificate, I needed to add a "second string to my bow", so I enrolled at Chiang Mai University in their TEFL Certificate course. While there I studied linguistic theory and communicative teaching methodology.
I have worked as a teacher of English as a foreign language in two periods for a total of five years. On both occasions I was privileged to teach university students and young working adults at the American University Alumni Language Center in Bangkok.
I enjoy teaching very much, whether it be to ab initio pilots, airline pilots or Thai university students learning English, I derive a great deal of satisfaction from my students' success in achieving their objectives.
My interests are travelling, sailing, reading, music, art, and flying.

May 05, 2013
Flying up the Gulf of Siam in a Boeing 727 at 37,000 feet we were in and out of the cloud tops and experiencing moderate turbulence at times. With the 727's high wing loading we couldn’t request a higher level because we were already quite close to “coffin corner”. That’s the top area on the perfor...

On a day off from flying I decided to ride my Vespa from Sana’a to Hodeida on the Red Sea. I asked Katia, my Italian girlfriend, if she would like to accompany me. April 07, 2013
I had just got my commercial pilot’s license and I didn’t have enough flying hours to get a corporate flying job or any job for that matter, so I decided the quickest way to overcome this problem was to buy a small economical two seater as an hours builder. At the time there were small aer...
