11. Autonomous Optimization Saves Launch of New Miter Saw
July 21, 2009
In 2007, Milwaukee Electric Tool Corporation, located in Wisconsin, planned to launch a new miter saw. A high pressure die casting company was found to cast the saw base. A die was designed and built based on the die caster’s past experience. The first die trials produced visually sound castings and...

14. Waste Reduction in Engineering a High Pressure Die Casting Process
June 26, 2009
Abstract Waste: an unwanted or undesired material or substance (Wikipedia: online encyclopedia). To an outsider, looking in at the metalcasting industry, it seems as though the substances we waste most often are time and energy - and they might well be right! At some foundries, these non-replaceab...

16. Faster Sourcing Decisions Saves Big for Die Castings Buyers
May 11, 2009
The area least able to be improved is that of human working speed. Computer work hundreds of times faster than they did years ago, but that is a transformation that humans will never be able to duplicate. Unlike machines, however, humans are intelligent, and capable of using those software and hardw...

19. High Pressure Die Casting Process Simulation
April 06, 2009
In theory, the high-pressure die casting process is simple: Molten metal is injected into the mould, solidifies a few seconds later and is then ejected as a casting. The mould gets treated with a lubricant to avoid having the casting stick to the mould then closed for the next “shot”. In reality, ...
