Memorable Quote 1: Your voice speaks volumes about you - what is yours saying?

Memorable Quote 2: If you are not nervous in public speaking, then I am.

Author Comment / Biography:
The Voice Lady, Nancy Daniels, has been involved in voice training since 1977. A graduate of Gettysburg College with a BA in music, she discovered the techniques for improving the sound of the speaking voice while in graduate school at American University in Washington, D.C.

Prior to her move to Canada in 1981, Nancy worked for G. Schirmer, ICM Artists and the Aspen Music Festival where she was director of public relations. Aware that her own speaking voice was a predominant factor in obtaining employment with such reputable firms, she believes that a dynamic and mature-sounding voice is a fantastic asset, increasing one’s confidence and self-esteem.

While in Canada, Nancy taught Voice and Public Speaking at the University of Western Ontario’s Graduate School of Journalism, The Ivey School of Business, and St. Peter’s Seminary. In 1989 she started her own company, Communication Dynamics, for businesses and the general public.

Upon returning to the States in 1997, she opened her business under the name Voice Dynamic and from 1999 to 2003 continued to teach Voice & Diction and Public Speaking at the college level.

In addition to her guest speaking engagements, Nancy holds private, group, and corporate workshops throughout the United States and Canada.

For those unable to work with her directly, she is now offering Voicing It!, the only voice improvement course on video covering The Voice Dynamic Approach.

June 29, 2010

It never ceases to amaze me how many people yell or shout doing great damage to their throats and vocal folds. In addition, a voice produced by yelling hurts your listeners’ ears. There is a technique, however, which saves both your throat and everyone else’s ears. It is called projection.

502. Public Speaking Is Easier Than You Think & Fun to Boot!
June 29, 2010

While public speaking may be man’s greatest fear, you don’t have to allow it to be yours. Begin by thinking of it as a conversation between you and your audience. Such being the case, what do you normally do when you are talking to others?

1. You talk about a subject familiar to you, shari...

503. The Unfortunate Truth about Vocal Abuse
June 25, 2010

That which causes your voice to sound hoarse or creates a chronic sore throat is called vocal abuse. While it is common for pop singers, it also happens to many people because of speaking and/or yelling for great lengths of time. Unfortunately, vocal abuse will not go away on its own if you contin...

504. How to Grab, Move and Motivate Your Audience
June 25, 2010

In public speaking, it is common knowledge that your opening must grab the attention of your audience with your initial remarks. And, beginning your presentation with the words, “Today I’m going to talk to you about….” is not the way you do that. In fact, when I was teaching at both the college an...

505. The 5 Biggest Mistakes Made in Public Speaking
June 25, 2010

I recently had the opportunity to hear a world-renowned public speaker and was surprised as well as disappointed by his delivery. While his message was excellent, his means of delivering that message would have gotten him a C- in my college public speaking class. Without a doubt, content is import...

506. 3 Steps for Making Your Speaking Voice Your Greatest Asset
June 23, 2010

Most people who hear themselves on their voicemail or answering machine do not like what they hear. How do you feel when you hear yourself on some form of recording equipment? 507. Why Not Address Your Fears of Public Speaking Instead of Being Consumed by Them?
June 23, 2010

Yes, man’s greatest fear is public speaking. The statistics tell us so. Instead of being part of those statistics, however, why not address those fears and learn how to put your nervousness to good use? Of course your first response is to question how that is possible. How do you take your nervo...

508. Keep It Simple in Public Speaking
June 23, 2010

How often had you heard the premise in public speaking that you should tell your audience what you want them to hear, tell them again what you want them to hear and finally tell them once more what you have already told them? The reasoning behind this advice is that your listeners will only rememb...

509. Think Your Chronic Hoarseness Will Go Away on Its Own? Think Again!
June 02, 2010

Teachers get it; drill sergeants get it; singers get it; and, politicians get it – just ask Hillary Clinton! Ministers, coaches, trainers, and aerobic instructors get it. Anyone who overuses his/her voice on a daily basis can get it. Rooting for your favorite team can do it as well as yelling at ...
