Many people are faced with a decision on what type of insurance they can manage to pay for their budget. Drivers who are trying to save money on their auto insurance will normally want to simply get liability insurance. You may very well be asking what liability insurance protects you against if you are going to be making this investment. First off, you need to know that liability insurance only is necessary for wrecks that you cause. If you are in an incident that is not your fault, the other persons insurance will start working. Second, liability will not take care of the damage to your own vehicle if you are in fact the cause of the accident. Many people who have an inexpensive vehicle will select to only have liability insurance because they are not fearful about replacing or fixing their own vehicle. They only want the coverage to cover the damage that they cause to others. So what type of protection plan is made available when you buy liability insurance? Your coverage is categorised into 2 main categories. Medical expenses and property damage of the other folks involved in the accident that you cause. The medical expenses are further divided to each individual in the accident and the total hospital expenses in the accident. The insurance policies will look something like this: $50,000/$100,000. This means that each individual wounded in the collision will be covered for up to $50,000 in medical bills up to a total of $100,000 in total medical bills. If there are more expenses than this, you can be sued for the residual if the injured person chooses. The property damage you cause is not simply limited to the damage to the other car. It can also cover damage to the surrounding buildings or fences. You want to be certain that you have ample coverage that you don’t open yourself up to a lawsuit if you cause property damage that exceeds your protection plan. As you can ascertain, liability insurance protects you against damages that are generated when you are at fault in an accident. The rate of coverage you have may permit you to pay nothing for the medical bills or property damage brought about by the crash. If you don’t have sufficient coverage, you may open yourself up to a lawsuit for the remaining balance. All states require liability insurance but some have different minimum requirements for coverage. Some insurance carriers wont allow you to get just the state minimums. They may have their private company policy that sets the limit higher than the state minimums. Keep that in your thoughts when looking for coverage.
