Elvis was in the building...and so was Angel MedFlight. Continuing its strong support of philanthropic organizations, Angel MedFlight air ambulance service was involved with the Valley of the Sun Active 20-30 Club's 19th annual Viva Las Vegas event held last month in Old Town Scottsdale. What happens in Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas, but it's all right to tell you what happened at Viva Las Vegas. An extravagant semi-formal event, Viva Las Vegas included casino-style gaming, live entertainment and dancing. The big winners on the night ended up being programs served by the Valley Kids Foundation with all proceeds from donations directly applied to the non-profit organization. Jessica Merwin is a Flight Coordinator and Case Manager at Angel MedFlight and also a member of the VOS Active 20-30 Club. "We raised over $230,000 for local charities throughout the Valley," says Merwin. She also says a barrier was broken this year with a female winning the poker tournament for the first time. The 2013 Viva Las Vegas event was held at the beautiful SouthBridge Plaza on the waterfront in Old Town Scottsdale. As an Elvis impersonator made the rounds and Vegas-style showgirls posed for photos, gamers tried their luck at blackjack, roulette and other casino-style games. Others checked out the prizes being offered during the night's silent auction. Angel MedFlight donated one of the evening’s most highly sought-after prizes: a charter flight from Scottsdale to the Colorado resort town of Telluride. The prize included jetting the winner and up to four friends for a three-night stay at The Peaks Resort and Spa. The luxury travel package is valued at $42,000. The Valley of the Sun Active 20-30 Club is a non-profit volunteer fundraising organization made up of 75 professional women in their 20s and 30s who are committed to developing personal leadership skills and raising funds to support Valley children's charities. The club was founded in 1988 and organizers say that since then, hundreds of thousands of dollars and thousands of hours have been donated to local children's charities. The club's primary beneficiary is Florence Crittenton Services of Arizona, Inc., a non-profit organization that has served the state's youth and their families for more than a century. Elvis Presley's hit "Viva Las Vegas" sings of "a fortune won and lost on every deal." But the thousands of dollars that Angel MedFlight helped to raise on this March night at Viva Las Vegas served as one "Big Hunk O' Love" for the Valley's local charities. Angel MedFlight, the worldwide leader in air ambulance service, is proud to have been a part of the event and is glad the evening was such a great success.
