An entrepreneur is someone that facilitates and manages a business with hopes of successes in regards to growth and profitability. My interview with part-owner of Barnes Friederich Funeral Home, Rhonda Burnett, was a great learning experience. I have gained a lot of insight into what it means to be an entrepreneur and business owner, especially having it come from my own mother. She stared this business with Vince Friedrich and her dad, or my grandfather, Joe Barnes. They wanted to start a Funeral home that was both attentive to the client’s needs and providing a personal care in their time of need. Their goal was to have a family oriented business with the funeral home so that the families at the funeral service would know that they are being well cared for. In their own experience, they found that being partners and co-owners of the funeral home made it easier to start the business and help each other in daily operations. My mother, Rhonda said she had gotten her inspiration from her own father because he had accomplished so many wonderful things in his lifetime. They went in with close confidante and funeral director, Vince Friedrich because of his knowledge and skills with handling funeral services. They each had an important part to play and each brought something different to the table. After the interview and reflecting on the response to the questions I gave, it was clear that they valued loyalty and cooperation in starting this endeavor together. The assistant professor of New York University’s school of continuing and professional studies stated “acknowledge that no matter who did what or how much, nothing could have been accomplished without the work and contribution of the other” (Gutner, 2011). I have learned that to be an entrepreneur it takes a great deal of dedication and effort but if you find someone to do too, there is a greater chance of success. Gutner, T. (2011, August 16).
