Necklaces: Expressions in Jewelry

Fashion & Cosmetics
Claws, rocks, teeth, pottery and other items made up the first pendants to adorn early necklaces. Ancient man used whatever he could find on the ground to adorn his neck. As civilizations evolved, so did the materials used to create this type of jewelry.

The Egyptians made colored glass beads but they also adored gemstones in their pieces. One style that is quintessentially Egyptian is the usekh which is a gold collar style that was often adorned with charms and gemstones. Today, the choker may be the closest thing to this ancient decoration.

Classic Styles and New Trends

There are so many different kinds of beaded, silver and gold necklaces to choose from that there really is something for everyone. From the simplest diamond solitaire pendant to quirky layers, the possibilities for expression are limitless. There is nothing more classic than a pearl necklace. Whether faux pearls or real, women of all ages are wearing this classic piece on special occasions.

Gold necklaces are also classic and go with everything from casual to dressy. There are simple gold chains that can hold pendants and there are fancy pieces that need no other adornments. Men appreciate this style as well. They tend to wear bolder pieces that are wider and thicker. Often, they will wear a heavy gold pendant or charm as well.

Silver pieces are available in inexpensive simple pendants to very expensive designer fashion jewelry. Some of these designer pieces can as expensive as some pieces with gold and gemstones. A fairly new trend in silver is initial chains. The initials may be dressed up with crystals or diamonds or plain.

Metal or plastic beads that make up some costume jewelry can also come at quite a price. Luckily, there are stylish pieces made of all kinds of materials that can be purchased at any price point.

Caring for Bead Necklaces and More

Beads are usually made from plastic and can be wiped down with a damp cloth. If they are gold, clean them like any other type of gold necklace-in warm soapy water and gently wipe with a soft cloth. Silver necklaces require different treatment because of their tarnishing properties. A special silver cleaner should used to remove these spots. There are wipes, creams and liquids specially designed for this.

To store all necklaces, utilize that section of the jewelry box that has hooks. You know the ones where the doors open up and the hooks are placed across the back of the door? Those are for hanging your pieces. Otherwise, they could quickly become a mass of tangled chains. It is a true test of patience to have to untangle this mess!

If a special occasion is coming up, a diamond necklace or some other style is a great choice for a gift. It doesn't have to be sized and it lasts forever. Whether for a special occasion or she just wants to treat herself, the choices are numerous. Simple and sophisticated or quirky and cute, there is a style for every personality.

Gold necklaces are a hit in any language you want to communicate in. Show your confidence, show your love and devotion, or just show off, with gold necklaces from http://www.gemaffair.com
