Setting A Reflection Free Zone In An Auditorium

Home Improvement,Home Repair,Interior Design
To get a perfect sound in an auditorium, it is important to focus on creating a Reflection Free Zone for a great experience. Auditorium acoustics design is a very serious issue but the concept behind is very simple. The idea is to avoid "early reflections", that happens when the sound from the speakers reaches the ears through two diverse paths, one is from the direct source and the other you get after reflecting from the walls. A lot of attention is paid to the auditorium acoustics architectural design so as to place the speakers at the right locations and prevent any reflections from developing.

Acoustics in auditorium can get damaged if there is sound reflection from walls, ceilings, floor, as this can harm clarity and imaging. Sometimes, these reflections make it even difficult to locate the actual source of the sound in the auditoriums. The general purpose of creating a Reflection Free Zone is to block these reflection paths by placing acoustic auditorium tiles that help in absorbing these reflections and improve the quality of sound in the auditorium. Auditorium acoustics materials are of very superior quality.

When you get an echo accompanying the direct sound, within twenty milli-seconds or even less, the human ear is unable to distinguish the original sound source and the echo. The result is that one hears sounds coming from different directions and that can obscure the clarity. Listening to music or sound in a Reflection Free Zone in acoustics auditorium is very similar to the experience one gets when listening with headphones. The sound are clearer and much better defined. Another reason why it is essential to control early reflections with the right auditorium acoustics with absorption is to decrease comb filtering. This occurs due to frequency response error cause due to mixing of the source and its reflections in the air.

If your budget allows, then auditorium design can be made in such way that the side walls are angled and the ceiling is sloping upward. The reflections are then directed at the rear of the listening position in the acoustic auditorium and there is minimum need of applying any acoustic materials to the ceiling or walls. But most people do not have such a budget and often rely on using acoustic auditorium wall panels as well as acoustic auditorium ceiling tiles.

How to tell if there are going to be reflections in the acoustics of auditorium is not too difficult. A simple way is to use a mirror. Sit in the listening position and have another person stand against the wall and move the mirror in different directions. Any location, where you see the speaker in the mirror needs to be covered with acoustic material. Once the location of the side walls are identified for sound reflections, you need to repeat the same for the acoustic auditorium ceiling. It is also essential to know that the range of frequencies that can be absorbed impacts the quality of the RF Zone. The absorption should extend to a much lower frequency, thus making the Reflection free more effective.
