Here’s a little break away from basketball online betting or online betting baseball and look into one aspect of the nature of NBA. During the season, there have been a couple of coaches getting fired and some resignations. Mike Brown got axed only after a few games into the season. Avery Johnson got fired just after a week of being named the coach of the month. Scott Skiles and Alvin Gentry resigned as a head coaches for their clubs. In this slew of firings and resignations, you can’t help but wonder about what it takes to be a successful coach a cutthroat league. As San Antonio Spurs coach, Gregg Popovich has said ago after the firing of Avery Johnson almost two months, coaching in the NBA is a volatile gig. To be exact, the NBA has a volatile nature. When things aren’t going so well with a team, the first one to draw attention for the responsibility is the coaches. Well, this is just natural. Teams can’t fire their star player for having a series of bad game, and to appease the furious fans, they look no further than the coach. This was most likely the case with Avery Johnson. By any standard, Johnson is a decent coach with a philosophy of his own. However, Deron Williams didn’t quite jived with this philosophy and when Brooklyn’s hot start got marred by series of loses, the front office quickly decided that he needed to be fired. It was a move not just to appease the fans but most of all, the so-called star of the team in the person of Williams. I can understand if they fired Johnson because they have some plan in mind to replace him with someone who can really improve the team. However, that wasn’t the case right here. They fired him, without a clear plan for the next step, leaving PJ Carlesismo in-charge of the coaching. Fortunately for PJ, the team won series of games. But the question remains, what if they kept on losing? Remember that they only saw PJ as an interim coach, not someone they’d want to handle the future of the franchise. Look at the Nets now and you see a different coach, but the star of the team still plays like he did during Johnson’s time period, playing uninspired and far from what is expected of a salary as big as his. The same can be said with the Lakers, although they already have candidates on the back of their mind before firing Mike Brown. All these lead to the conclusion that coaching job gets it hard while players have it easy.
