Flat Screen TV Buying Guide - How To Choose a TV That Best Suits Your Needs

Entertainment,Electronics,Science & Technology
If you want a flat screen TV buying guide, but you don’t need a guide that's overly complicated or takes you too long to read, then look no further. This concise guide will get straight to the point and highlight all the essential factors you need to think about. To begin with we'll look at the main kinds of Television available, then take a look at the number 1 companies out there, and then we’ll take a look at the key features you might want to look for.

The Main Television Types

Now, I imagine you already know the sort of size Television you would like, so here we are able to look at more important factors. When it comes to the display technology available, there's basically three main styles of Television display: LCD, LED, and Plasma.

LCD - Slim, lightweight. - Come in a range of sizes. - Great for bright rooms. - More manufacturers and sizes to choose from than Plasma. - Usually cost more than Plasma televisions of similar size, however it's becoming less so as the technology progresses.

LED Displays - A style LCD display, but with a different type of lighting. - Uses LED to light the LCD particles, as opposed to Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps, as were used in older LCD screens. - Better energy efficiency. - Longer lasting - doesn’t degrade the way that the older type LCDs.

Plasma - Great for very large screens (42 inches or greater). - Are easily viewed from virtually any angle. - Amazing for fast action, for example games, sports or action movies.

Which Brands Do You Pick?

Samsung - Innovator and market leader. - LED pioneer. - Very popular brand - probably the best, if you ever had to name only one number 1 brand. Certainly the best-selling in Great Britain, anyway. - Amazing image quality.

LG - Another well-liked company. - Offers a wide range of plasma TVs, but in addition makes LCD and LED. - Creates some fully featured screens known as Infinia.

Panasonic - Top company for Plasma TVs. - Produces LCD televisions too. - Produces some very large screens. - Among the first to offer 3D.

Toshiba - Makes a wide range of high definition televisions, from budget to high-end TVs called the Cinema Series. - Plan to begin making 3D sets in the near future.

VIZIO - Newer company (began in 2002). - Makes LCD Models. - Companies itself as “America’s number 1 LCD Television make”

Which Features to Look For

There are many different features that TVs have nowadays, but listed here are a number of the crucial things to look out for.

Screen Refresh Rate (Frame Rate) - For LCD, get the new 120Hz or 240Hz screens. - Plasma has exceptionally quick transition between frames, so copes better with fast digital scenes.

Internet - PC input - some TVs have PC input, so you can surf the internet on your Television. - Internet@TV - some Samsung TVs come with a function called Internet@Television, which gives access to the internet whilst you watch Television. - Some other new TVs also allow internet access to services for example YouTube, Netflick, Facebook, etc.

Connections - Wi-Fi - log on to your own network. - HDMI - High Definition Multimedia Interface. - PC input - as mentioned above.

Easy Settings & Specific Modes - Game Mode - some TVs (e.g. Samsung) have a specific mode for game playing, which boosts the sound and image specifically for this purpose. - Picture Wizard - this is an easy step-by-step wizard that is included with LG TVs and helps you to easily adjust your picture settings. - Some TVs can even detect the lighting of your room and automatically optimize your screen settings.

It's Your Choice

So, as you can see, there's a lot of different factors which could determine which type of TV you are likely to buy. After you have decided on the size of the screen you then need to decide on the screen type, whether it’s Plasma or LCD. Once you have decided on that, it’s best to check out the brand that's the leader in that specific technology. For example, if you'd like an LED style LCD TV, then Samsung is probably your best bet. However, if you decided on Plasma, then LG is a good choice. After you have made that decision, it’s really just a case of keeping an eye out for the features you want, and then reading reviews from existing customers, to find out whether it’s a pretty good model to buy.

Still not decided which TV to purchase? If not, then check out our recommendations for 42 inch plasma and samsung 46 lcd
