Film is too often considered as an important art form which can be used in various ways, as well as a source of entertainment and a powerful process for educating people. The visual elements of cinema give motion pictures a universal power of communication. Nowadays, Argentina has become to be one of the major film industries in the Spanish speaking world. Argentine Cinema has been one of the three most developed cinemas in all Latin America, along with cinemas made in Mexico and Brazil. Throughout the 20th century, Argentine film productions came to be one of the major film industries in the Spanish-speaking world. Won 14 Goya Awards for Best Spanish Language Foreign Film; is also the only country in all Latin American that won an Academy Award, with The Official Story (1985) and The Secret in Their Eyes (2009). In 1896, Lepage imported the first French cinematographic equipment into the country and though Eugenio Py who, using a Gaumont camera in 1897; is often credited for the first Argentine film, La Bandera Argentina. The credit belongs to a German-Brazilian named Federico Figner, who screened the first three Argentine films on 24 November of 1896. By earning renown, Py continued to produce films for exhibition at the Casa Lepage for many years, following up with "Viaje del Doctor Campos Salles a Buenos Aires" (1900) and "La Revista de la Escuadra Argentina" (1901). At that time, the first projection halls did opened, working as part of the cross-national film production, developed by Glücksmann in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. The decade ended on a high with the 2009 film "El secreto de sus ojos" receiving critical praise, winning an Oscar for being the Best Foreign Language Film at the 82nd Academy Awards, three weeks after being awarded the Goya Award for being the Best Spanish Language Foreign Film of 2009.
