Summer time is one of the best times of the year for long motorcycle trips. Lots of motorcycle riders and riding clubs love to embark on a trip in the country side for a little sightseeing and adventure. However, trips such as this require proper planning and consideration. Before you head out, keep in mind the following safety tips for motorcycle travelers. 1. Prepare your motorcycle. You can’t travel without checking the condition of your bike. Make sure that your motorcycle is ready for the long ride. Check your tires, brakes, engine, lights and thoroughly inspect the motorcycle and look for damages that may affect its performance. You can have last minute repair and maintenance or bring your bike to a mechanic to get it ready for the trip. If you wish to complete the trip on one piece, make it a point to avoid getting into accidents by preparing your motorcycle before you travel. 2. Pack your safety gear and equipment. Don’t forget to bring your motorcycle safety gear such as helmet, riding jacket, pants, boots, gloves, vest and goggles. And to be on the safe side, make sure these gears are waterproof also. Because you can’t truly avoid riding in the rain, bring motorcycle rain suits on your saddlebag. Travelling without wearing these protective gears is like asking for trouble. A lot of riders did not survive a collision because of the lack of safety equipment to protect their body. 3. Be prepared to all kinds of weather. Travelling for days will make your prone to all kinds of weather should be prepared for it. Always listen to the weather forecast. When it’s going to be hot, wear cool clothes but when it’s going to rain, wear your motorcycle rain gear. The gears will protect your skin, body and health. Stop for a while you can’t take the heat nor the rain anymore. Its better sure than sorry. 4. Pack lightly. Motorcycle travelers have less spaced for luggage so packing light is the best option. Bring only the necessary things such as food, camping gear, utensils, safety gear, emergency kit, maintenance and repair kit, flashlight and cash. 5. Ride safely. Be extra careful when riding a motorcycle in traffic. Unlike cars, there’s no seat belts on a motorcycle therefore ride within safe distance and don’t accelerate faster than other vehicles. Travelling in your motorcycle is fun but its much fun if you can avoid problems along the way. You have to plan properly and to anticipate a lot of things that may happen along to way and to prepare for it.
