The advent of education portals can only be seen as the vast growth scope of technology. With the increase in the capacity of technology to reach out to people, it has done several wonders. Today, students around the world can compare their notes and their syllabus and all this with only a click. You are no more dependent on the solution that the teacher may provide in the class. The world of internet gives you the scope to reach out to a larger section of students and teachers who are available to help you out. Such education portals are a huge help to students who are diligent and are ready to slog it out for success. It does not matter if the student follows an ICSE or CBSE Syllabus; most portals have these two boards covered; apart from a few state boards too. So in choosing a particular education portal, the student can find out whether it supports his board syllabus or not. The major problem that students face is mostly with subjects in the Science group and its allied subjects like economics, social studies etc. To best prepare for exams, one can solve the problems given at the back of each lesson. All NCERT Books follow this pattern as it is very effective to help students recapitulate what they have learnt in the chapter. Having help online also helps students to learn science subjects if they are falling behind in class or fail to understand the process or explanation provided by the subject teacher. But is everything so rosy about this world? Unfortunately, no. Many students take undue advantage of these education portals. Since help is available online, a student can easily access it with the help of a username. For example, if a teacher sets a mock question paper from the CBSE syllabus, he expects the students to solve the problems by themselves. But a student can always take the help of such portals to win a good name in front of the class by having solved all the questions correctly. In the process, the student may earn praise currently, but ultimately it shall harm him in the long run. Also, when one knows that the solution is easily available at hand, the eagerness to solve it on your own and the curiosity to get back to class and compare how many you got correct gets diminished. And thus, inspite of helping; the very motive with which the NCERT book was set gets defeated. Thus, indiscriminate use of an education portal may harm a student more than help him. So, while participation in such portals may be encouraged, it is important to keep a tab on how much you are letting your child get away with.
