This is so since Java is new and of course there have been lots of trial and errors made by the people behind this language programming. After the first three years, the succeeding releases of the next versions were at a lapse of 2 years and stopped at 2006. Then, it took about 5 years to have the latest version which is Java SE 7. This is may be due to the fact that Java SE 6 which was released way back in 2006 became a huge success and there have been no major issues about it. Or it took for the team behind Java to come up with a version which will surpass the last seven different versions released. To have a full grasp of these various versions, it is highly recommended to get into Java programming tutorial. This will enrich what you have learned about Java and let you walk through the different versions.
