Laboratory fume hoods serve to control exposure to toxic, offensive or flammable vapors, gases and aerosols. Fume hoods are the primary method of exposure control in the laboratory. The laboratory fume hood is a type of local exhaust ventilation system (engineering control). A typical fume hood is a cabinet with a moveable front sash (window) made out of safety glass. A properly used and properly functioning fume hood exhausts hazardous gases, dusts, mists, and vapors from a confined location and helps protect workers from inhalation exposure. Fume hoods function on very basic principle of containment. They are basically designed for safety of the personnel working within the lab by maintaining negative pressure inside the hood compared to that within the lab. Fume hood performs effectively and safely at the face velocity of 100 fpm (or 0.5mtr/sec) at defined sash opening. It will have double skinned construction to make it safer. It comprises of electrical components and utilities as per the need of experiment. These laboratory fume hoods consist of standard vertically operated counter balanced toughened glass sash or combination of horizontal & vertical sash opening. Choice between steel and wooden fume hood is always available as per the requirements. The design is based on rigid frame construction that assures a solid installation with low vibration and sound levels. Radius corner posts and air foils plus easy operator control of interior baffle settings assure a high level of comfort, safety and efficiency. Its Unique Hot Zone Baffles capture fumes quickly. The tapered fibreglass exhaust collar reduces airflow turbulence, static pressure loss, noise level and increases face velocity uniformity. The gentle pitch of the hood profile enhances visibility. Tri-wall construction and chain-and-sprocket sash system for maximum durability. Stop limits sash movement beyond 457mm (18"). When raised above this height, sash will automatically and gently fall back to the safe level. Key lock is available to keep sash in place at full open position for equipment loading, or at full close position to restrict access into hood. Constant volume / high performance concept eliminates the need for complex VAV systems. The Fume Hood delivers outstanding containment (less than 0.05ppm, as manufactured) down to 60fpm face velocity at both 18" restricted and full open sash openings, tested in house. With the variety of models available and the comprehensive option packages to be selected, this generation of fume hoods can be tailored to the application needs of any modern laboratory. Commercial and industrial laboratories, research centres, schools and universities, government facilities, hospitals and clinics are all typical laboratory locations where Kewaunee Supreme Air Fume Hoods, through their performance, prove their quality/value standards.
