There’s something bizarre about on site building maintenance. Everyone with an inch of DIY experience seems to think that they can become the next big thing – especially if you own a few tools! Remember the time that your partner asked you to build a tree-house for the kids? Immediately after erecting the masterpiece you were thinking to yourself, “I can do this for a living” and started the exciting research into launching your latest business idea only to be pushed back which resulted in the inevitable business launch stalling. This is exactly why I love my job as an on site spraying contractor. There are so many people that just assume its painting and decorating but on a larger scale. Unfortunately, it isn’t that easy and there is a lot that you would need to learn if you decided to take up the role. So if you’re thinking of taking the plunge and either starting up on your own or joining a commercial spraying company, sit back, grab a cup of tea and have a read. I’ll warn you now, it isn’t all it seems! Whether you work in a large company or have joined a slightly smaller contractor, the demands will be all the same. Every project you complete will need to be completed on time, budget and to an impeccable standard. After all, they are paying you for the service! However, we have all worked for or on behalf of that nightmare client. The best ones are the guys that follow your every move through-out your time on site and are completely convinced that they can do the job to the same or higher standard. Especially with Roof Spraying and Coatings! Now unfortunately, the weather in the UK is extremely unpredictable. At times we are blessed with clear skies and warm weather. Only to be completely poured on by the almighty upstairs. The constant change in weather makes the on site spraying maintenance that little bit trickier. As the weather continues to pour down upon us, the hard work that we are doing is pretty much done for. The harsh rain water has a number of chemicals in it that causes the wet commercial spray paint to run, undoing all of our work – a nightmare! We always advise that you complete any on site cladding paint maintenance in the summer months as it will certainly make your life a hell of a lot easier. So you can see that there are many benefits to working in the building maintenance industry, but there are also a lot of occasions that can bring you down. I will certainly stand up and sing the maintenance trades good points. The guys and clients that you meet along the way truly are remarkable and can provide you with some great laughs. However, it’s not for everyone and I would encourage you to have a serious think about joining such an industry. CJ Coatings are a commercial On Site Spraying contractor based in the UK and provide commercial clients with ongoing building maintenance 365 days a year.
