Chianti tour from Florence. Whether you want to ride a Vintage Vespa, try the famous Chianti wine or get cooking with fresh local ingredients, Mauro's company promises excitement, adventure and above all, fun. If you're keen to experience the magic of Italy with the help of some passionate and knowledgeable tour guides, look no further than WalkAbout Florence for your next getaway. ">Italy’s Chianti region is famed for rolling green hills, ancient fortified towns, scenic vineyards and exceptionally good wine. It’s not hard to find charming small towns well worth stopping off in when visiting the area. Below are some of the highlights to look forward to on a Chianti tour from Florence.

Greve

Greve is known as the doorway to the Classico region. Since the Middle Ages, the town’s main piazza has hosted lively markets and festivals under the protection of porticos that run along the three sides of the peculiarly shaped “square”. In the middle of the hustle and bustle stands the statue of Giovanni da Verrazzamo, the explorer who discovered the Bay of New York. Winelovers will be pleased to learn of Greve’s Museo del Vino — a museum entirely dedicated to wine production. The enotecas and vineyards are also great places to sample wine during your Greve in Chianti tour from Florence.

Radda

The capital of the old military Lega has miraculously preserved its classic Medieval look and feel. Its maze of streets is still defended by ancient stone walls around the border, making it the perfect place to get delightfully lost in during your Chianti tour from Florence.

After visiting the Palazzo del Podestà and spying the collection of coats of arms on its facade, stop to take in the panorama over the sun-drenched vineyards surrounding the town. It’s a view best enjoyed with a glass of Classico in hand.

Castellina

Castellina’s origins lie in the Etruscan era, but the town is best known for serving as an important strategic headquarters during the rivalry of Florence and Siena. The huge fortress now houses the Archeological Museum, where you can learn more about the tumultuous past.

The aroma of grapes welcomes visitors to Castellina’s Via delle Volte, a web of underground Medieval passageways, which today are home to an impressive array of local food and wine cellars.

Panzano

Panzano may be the most populated town in the region, but it still promises a remarkably charming atmosphere. The old town, castle and Church of Santa Maria are not to be missed.

Foodies will love it here. The town is home to the butcher shop of Dario Cecchini, a famous poet-butcher turned TV icon. The Bistecca alla Fiorentina (Florentine steak) is a meat-eater’s paradise and comes highly recommended. While you’re being served, you may be lucky enough to hear the owner reciting passages from Dante’s Divine Comedy.

Montefioralle

Perched atop a steep hill, Montefioralle is an idyllic Medieval stone hamlet. On your Chianti tour from Florence you’ll need to keep your camera at your fingertips at all times, but particularly here! The stone streets and stunning panoramas are picturesque, to say the least, so you are certain to snap some excellent photos. Montefioralle has a couple of restaurants ideal for those wanting to enjoy a leisurely lunch after a long climb up to the hamlet.

Any of these delightful smaller towns will make a great stop off point on a Chianti tour from Florence, but for a first class experience, do make sure you book with a reputable company. Small group travel and knowledgeable local guides will make all the difference to your day.
