The proliferation of used engines in private mechanic shops and home garages in the last decade has been nothing less than astounding. This is in large part due to the increase in the quality of auto recyclers who process used engines, higher industry standards, and intelligent consumers demanding the biggest bang for their dollar. The companies selling used engines aren’t your mom and pop “junk yards” anymore. Sure, those places exist, but they’re out of business (even though they don’t know it yet). In days past, junk yards existed merely to store vehicles until they could be crushed. Body parts and a few other non-critical components were removed and sold, but only if the buyer and the customer happened to be in the right place at the right time.
