Paper shredders are divided into six levels of security, determined by how they shred the paper fed into them. Not all shredders are qualified to handle every sensitive document for the fact that such crucial company or personal property has to be shredded thoroughly to the point that it is impossible to piece the file together. For example, top-level shredders are employed by government agencies to destroy top secret files, mainly those on the level of national security. Level one: A normal document can be shredded at level one, which is also known as general document destruction. When the paper is fed into a level one certified paper shredder, it will create paper strips measuring about 10.5 to nearly 12 mm, or 3/8 to half inch.
