A Security Officer has many important tools, his or hers many function is to observe and report, here we’ll focus on the most important tool support this function, the security notebook. The security notebook contains information that is logged by the security officer which may be used as evidence to help prosecute and at times protect the officer, so quality and accurate information is needed. This security notebook needs to have a sturdy backing so the security officer will be able to write on it. Some are designed to be durable but time is nobodies friend and material deterioration is inevitable and then there is the storage issue. But we now have Guard Buddy which is a mobile security app which is handy and you can do away with the pen and paper. With your regular security notebook, the security officer needs to write legibly, but with Guard Buddy, there are no worries about penmanship. The reports are easy to read and if you make a mistake, you can edit it real-time, as long as the report is not yet saved as a closed job. It is also good practice for a security officers to report their name and current license details. With guard buddy, not only does it have a customizable home screen, it includes job and site details with mandatory fields for Job Name, Address, Suburb, State, Zip/Post Code and also Job Description. It is also equipped with a “Patrol Quick Note” dropdown field to save time when the security officer is on an alarm response and it includes arrival and departs date/time information. On the regular security notebook, a detailed description is needed for the job site and the security officer needs to be objective and very specific. They also need to specify damage, injuries and or stolen properties. But with Guard Buddy, all these can be seen using up to 5 scene photos and a short descriptions. Before, if the security officer makes a mistake on the security notebook, the need to make a single line across it and others even have to write on practice paper first before transferring all information on the security notebook. But with Guard Buddy, no need for practice paper since everything is digital and very easy to clear out any mistakes on the report and as long as it remains as an “Open Job”, it is still editable. What the security notebook does not have is the “Get Directions” feature of guard buddy which utilizes Google Maps to pinpoint at street level the security officer location and show the guard how to get to the job site. Guard Buddy also has the ability to email these reports directly to specific recipients which means doing away with the photocopying of the security notebook if multiple copies are needed. This can also be resent anytime as a PDF Format attachment if necessary, from the “Closed Jobs” section. Guard Buddy has a Help Us Improve Screen for any suggestions or feedback you can provide. You can also Rate this App in Apple iTunes and Android.
