| The political leadership in Australia has shown its commitment towards a more agile ‘migration’ policy that aims at making adjustments to the student visa assessment process. The policy at the ministry of Immigration & Citizenship has shown a clear intent to allure and make possible for the global talent to come and prosper at Australia. Skillselect visa pass mark reduced for certain sub classes is a welcome step to this. This drop in the pass marks under the newly proposed Skillselect visa subclasses makes the entry easier for the students. Also, the influx of more talent should add to the economy of Australia. In order to manage the migration program at Australia, Skillselect is being utilized as the electronic service for the initial screening. The new crop of the migrants needs to first place forward an on-line ‘Expression of Interest’ EOI, followed by a claim on the present skills and the attributes. Skillselect will then rank the migrants as per the scores for a broad spectrum of occupations. Prior, the pass marks for Skillselect were 65 which have now been reduced to 60 points for the sub-classes 189, 190 and 489. Australia has witnessed a shortage of skills at many of its industries owing to the high pass marks in the new Skillselect programme. Australia has therefore gone ahead with a well placed migration drive with Skillselect visa pass mark reduced for certain subclasses. This reduction in the pass marks forms part of the series of the reform processes for the migration programme in Australia since the year 2008. The objective with such policy reforms is to ensure that the migration programme is demand driven and responsive to industry needs. Skillselect should help provide a better control over the skill management in the Australian economy. As per reports of the ministry of Immigration & Citizenship the pass mark of 65 was more accustomed to the migration reforms of the skilled segment. While, the pass mark of 60 also takes into consideration the unsponsored general skilled segment. The subclass 189 addresses the skilled worker class ‘not’ sponsored by any employer, state or the family. The subclass 190 is meant for the skilled workers being nominated by the state while the subclass 489 allows visa for the skilled worker being sponsored by an existing relative at Australia. There is a further mention of the subclass 188 for people who want to establish, own or manage a new business entity at Australia. Australia has remained unaffected of the present recession owing to the innovations and the development at sectors such as ores, minerals, energy and resources. The development in these sectors has also led to emergence of jobs which do face a constant shortage of skilled manpower. Skillselect visa pass mark reduced for certain subclasses should suffice the man-power demand in these sectors thereby adding to the national growth. Alongside, Skillselect also supports the Australian Government to cut upon the time taken for processing a visa application.
