Not every logo designer can be perfect in this world; not each of them can create a flawless design. The critics of the logo design industry say that there seems to be a pattern of mistakes that designers make when creating a logo design. According to the critics, some designs are just downright bad and need to be flushed down the drain immediately; some designs have mistakes that can be overlooked looking at the description each project holds. Mistakes can be related to the choice of color, fonts, images, and different other graphical elements. Some critics offer solutions and charge a certain fee for providing their consultancy; others just reject the designs and mind you, they do so without any care about the feelings of the designer. Some of the mistakes brought to one’s attention by the critics are... Mistake # 1: Starting the design process without initial briefing – When you’re designing a logo just to practice on your skills and refine your talent, then working without a brief sounds appropriate. However, the client business is an entire different story. When creating a logo design for a client, it’s all about building a strong relationship in order to persuade the client to buy more from you. With briefing provided by the client, a designer is able to create something that the client wants and not what he want to design in order to experiment his skills. Mistake # 2: Giving priority to your tastes – Always remember that a logo design needs to be designed keeping in mind what the customers want rather than what you want to sell. Sometimes clients as well evaluate the design on their own tastes rather than what their customers would prefer. Mistake # 3: Not enhancing the USP of the client – Every business has a USP (Unique Selling Proposition); like Apple’s USP is its innovativeness. Understanding the unique aspect of your clients business would help you to insert creativity and uniqueness in the logo design. Mistake # 4: Ineffective Brand Positioning – Far away from the concept of brand identity is brand positioning. Brand positioning is what customers think about your brand over the competitors’ brand. Effective marketing techniques such as using social media networks to reach a million customers in no time and with almost zero cost should be incorporated with the image of the brand. Doing marketing analysis between your and competing brands would provide you with a more detailed report as to which one is doing well in the market and which is not. Mistake # 5: No in - depth research – If you think that without understanding about the history of the brand and what the environment is within the firm you’d be able to create a logo design, then you’re probably on the wrong track. To design a logo that is effective and can be used for a number of years, then you need to align the values and beliefs of the firm with the design in order to synchronize all the elements.
