The shortest time taken sub-test in the IELTS exam is the Speaking test. It will take only 11 - 15 minutes total. In this shortest period, you need to Convince your speaking ability to the examiner. Speaking module is same for both the Academic and General Training modules. This test, which is fully recorded, is conducted by one examiner and one candidate. The Speaking Test is divided into 3 sections: Section 1 begins with usual introductory questions. This is followed by questions on personal information comparable to questions one usually ask when meeting for the first time. Subsequently, the examiner asks some questions on two subjects of general interest. This will be for about 4 - 5 minutes. In section 2, the examiner will give a card with a subject and the student need to talk for 2-3 minute about it. The student will be given 1 minute for preparing the points, and a paper and pencil will be provided for the same. In section 3 the examiner will ask questions related to the topic about which you spoke in section 2. This will be usually for about 4-5 minutes. General Tips for Speaking Before the test •Please try to speak in English whenever possible . Participate in discussions or debates Watch debate in news channels, BBC, and general TV. Watch English movies Listen to English radio programs Read English newspapers on a regular basis •Ensure that you are fully aware of the structure of the test •Regularly practice by speaking aloud and recording your sound with a tape recorder. Tips when taking the test •Dress up neatly and properly •Report to the venue bit early •Try to be confident •Look at the eyes of the examiner while speaking •Don’t bother if the examiner does not look at you while in part 2 •Don’t be too nervous Never say to the examiner that you are nervous. Most of the candidates will be nervous, and the examiner knows about it well •Speak clearly and loudly. Do not speak too fast or too slow •Correct yourself if you made any grammatical mistake.
