Flat monitors are special monitors that are made using the LCD technology and are in great demand among computer users for a lot of reason. The current market has a plethora of alternatives that are arguably better than one another in many aspects. This brings us to where we discuss about buying the right monitor and then caring for it. First of all, let us begin with the ubiquitous LCD flat monitors. Compared to the CRT monitors of the bygone era, LCD flat monitors are better when it comes to power consumption, display quality, clarity of picture and definitely the price. Of course the upfront amount one has to pay to buy flat monitors, but at the end of the day the operational costs and cost of owning these monitors is significantly less than any other monitor model. Savings are realized as energy cost and repair costs. If you have used CRT monitors before you will know that issues with CRT monitors are costly to repair. Flat monitors have very little breakable components inside which makes them resilient to shocks and physical handling injuries. The hard glass covering on CRT monitors is tougher compared to the soft plastic cover on flat monitors. That is because the liquid crystals in LCD monitors have a simple protective covering on it. But the protective covers on plasma monitors are better at withstanding more abuse! Always prefer plasma monitor over LCD because the former has a stronger screen than the later. But if power efficiency, lightness and simplicity are your primary concern then definitely choose LCDs, which use up to 4 times less power than plasmas. Also, it is worth noticing that when it comes to refresh rates and black levels, plasma screens have the upper hand. Sizes count too, but not as much as the technology at the core. For instance, a large screen LCD will consume or less power than a small screen LCD. Like we said, the size does not matter as much but it is still a point worth considering. Caring For Flat Monitors Once you have bought a flat monitor, buy additional protective sheets to cover the monitor to prevent kids or pets from throwing things at it. Alternatively, you can look for alternatives to mount the screen on a wall. 1. Use a soft cloth moistened with non-alkaline detergent to wipe the exterior of the computer. 2. Avoid spraying cleaner directly on the display or the keyboard. 3. Gently wipe the display with a dry, soft cloth. 4. If you cannot get rid of stains from the screen, wet a clean soft cloth and wipe gently, do not forget to let the screen dry before turning the power on.
