One Direction have joined forces in the onesie-wearing department. One can’t look at these brave fashion statements, though, without being reminded of those onesie pioneers, Tinky Winky, Dipsy, La La and the unforgettably red Po. All this gets me to thinking, has anyone cashed in yet and released a Teletubby line of onesies? And if not why not? The BBC Children’s characters are so recognisable by their outlines that anyone wearing a Dipsy onesie could probably start charging for signatures as they walk down the street. Of course if you were known Onesie-fan Brad Pitt, (did they ever show the Teletubbies on BBC America?), you might not know whether you were being approached for your autograph on account of your demi-god like figure in Troy, or on account of your La La suit. But quality control would be a concern would it not? After all, a Teletubby onesie would not be accurate unless it had the right kind of antenna sticking out of the top. Perhaps you never noticed that Dipsy’s antenna was fashioned like a dipstick. (Who said the programme wasn’t educational?!) All this brings us to a wonderful thought. If you did have a Teletubby-sie (!) – with an antenna built-in – you could have it doubling up as a 3G signal booster and linked by hidden internal wire to a socket for your smartphone whilst on the move. Just one thought there – with all that hidden electronics it might need to be dry clean-only. Now who wants to be seen taken this garment into the local dry cleaners on my behalf?
