The first step in getting that dream job is usually writing a Resume, this is usually the hardest part, apart maybe from the interview. The art of writing the best resume has been taught for years yet getting it right has never been easier. First there is the choice of the type of CV to be written whether functional or chronological, then the format for each that seems to keep on changing. Keeping in mind that writing about your self is one of the hardest things. The requirements in the same field usually match. Look through as many samples as possible, not only in your field. Pick a maximum of 5 samples that match your situation in terms of age, post sought, qualifications etc. Coming up with your own Resume Unfortunately even after going through multiple samples there is still a resume to write at the end of it. When coming up with your own resume follow these simple steps: • Avoid using the same words as in the sample(s) remember resumes are supposed to be unique. • Feel free to use charts, graphs and any visual aids except pictures. This helps in bringing out points clearly. • Be innovative with your format, truth is resume formats are not cast in stone. • Take a little bit from each of the samples handpicked from the search. Don’t lean too much on one sample. • Use the samples as guides not templates. After successfully coming up with your resume, look through it critically, give it to a friend who can give you reliable feedback. Act on the feedback accordingly, this should give a final copy. With that you will have made the first step towards your dream job, with a resume that truly defines you.
