Traditional SEO Tactics That Don't Work Anymore For Affiliates

Affiliate Programs,Writing,Copywriting
The name of the game for affiliates is to get traffic, and lots of it. A great Internet marketer know the power in numbers, so they spend every waking and sleeping moment trying to drive targeted traffic to their mini-sites, in the hopes of making a sale. Today, I am going to talk about old SEO tactics that affiliates use to perform, but no longer work in this day and age. I will also go deeper into new methods into gaining real targeted traffic for free with no investment!:

Article Directories- article marketing will always be the number one way to rank for certain keywords. Unfortunately, directories don't harnest as much power as they once did many years ago. The competition now requires an affiliate to write 20-50 articles per day just to make a couple of sales. The truth of the matter is, Google just doesn't care for article directories anymore because they know that they are full of garbage content and offer little to no substance to readers. There are only a few sites that manually check article submissions. If you notice, these directories have a pretty high PR, but they come far and in between. So, it is good to still use these sites, but just know you won't be receiving as much traffic from these directories as once before in the past.

Social Bookmarking- Back when I first started my first blog, the only methods I used to gain traffic was through article marketing, and submitting to social networks like Digg and Reddit. Don't get me wrong, these are still hot for gaining quality traffic, but a lot of these sites have been devalued by the search engines for obvious reasons. You can still gain traffic from sites like Reddit, etc, but you will have to put in extra work for picking your keywords. Long-tail and unique keywords will rank higher than generic words with little to no meaning. When it comes to affiliate marketing, this is very true for submitting to any website, whether it be a classified ad, forum, etc.

Bum Marketing- This term was coined by a few seasoned IM's who would write a review on an article and blast it to hundreds of article directories for traffic. This method still works, but only if you write more than one measley article. Chances are, if you use this method, you will need to crank out 20+ articles and submit them to at least 5-10 high page rank websites.

Free Classified Ad Sites- In all honesty, I have stopped using classified sites because I found them not to be very effective, unless I used them for 2nd tier backlink building reasons. One time, I wanted to get a little buzz about a product I had, so I wrote up 30 classified ads and submitted them. After checking my links the next few days, I noticed five of my submissions didn't even get indexed in the search engines (for whatever reason, as all of the content was unique and not duplicated content), and the other submissions were indexed but only got like 3-7 views. It use to be a time you could at least get some link juice from classifieds, but now, many of the site owners have removed the link feature. Unless you are using Craigslist (which still seems to get some results for some), or a blog/forum classified, chances are, you will be pretty much wasting your time.

So as you can see, there are ton of ways you can get free traffic. The key is to come up with new and innoative ways to keep these traditional methods of gaining traffic working. If you are going to use classified ad sites, make sure they allow you to post a link (even if it is nofollow); forum classified ad sites pretty much allow this...including some sites that come in the form of a wordpress blog. The secret is to gain high PR links to those classified sites. Research your keywords and utilize more than just one method for getting traffic and you will become a super affiliate in no time.
