By Leah Linhares Photography: Courtesy v2com A simple exercise by Denmark whizz kids has revolutionized the conventional ‘use me’ boxes aka dustbins in wake of today’s pertinent solution for waste management… What was intended to be a first semester project is now a business setup led by two students of Design Engineering - Heiða Nolsøe and Marie Berggreen from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). Fabricated from recycled cardboard, DropBucket comes with a PE-liner that makes the cardboard water-resistant. Its pyramid-shaped design makes it stable against wind whilst a simple push can have it erected and ready in a fraction of a second. Moreover, it can be flat-packed, thereby reducing storage space and facilitating easy transport; its weightlessness makes it convenient for 10 flat-pack pieces to be carried under each arm! The bin can be reused depending on the kind of waste it has held, and disposal results in mere recycling. All these features make the DropBucket an affordable, durable, and portable bin that is also sustainable. At the thousands of festivals and events that are organized world over, waste disposal is often an afterthought dealt with shoddily and unsatisfactorily; DropBucket takes care of these last minute aesthetics pragmatically. The original portfolio of the DropBucket is now readied into three new modules – one each for commercial and residential use, and widespread distribution. It is now being distributed across Denmark, throughout the Faroe Islands, Iceland and Germany. Talks have also commenced with distributors in Sweden, Norway and Austria. DropBucket is the recipient of the Red Dot Design Award: Best of the Best 2015! Click here to view the images on indiaartndesign.com
