EBooks, also known as e-books and digital books are book-length publications in digital form containing both text and images that can be read on computers and other electronic devices such as IPads and cell phones. The history of EBooks is unclear, but the fact that they have a major source of information in the electronic age is undisputable. Google, one of the leading search engine providers, has created one of the largest libraries of eBooks. EBooks range from fiction to scientific research and virtually any other topic that can be thought of. Some of the world's leading libraries are making their collections available on EBooks. Initially you needed a special reader to read eBooks but now the format has been standardized and this is not necessary any longer. There are several advantages of EBooks and one the biggest being that EBooks never go out of print. Readers and book lovers do not need to setup a physical library to store their collection of books, as the number of books that they can store on their computers and other EBook reader devices will depend on the capacity of the devices used. Another huge advantage of EBooks is that they can be translated into several languages. Books that have not been printed in certain languages are now available in virtually every language that is in popular use. The cost of producing an EBook is far less than printing and publishing the same book in the traditional form. An EBook becomes available as soon as it's released online and you don’t have to line up outside book stores and wait for the first publication to go on sale. You don’t need to go to a library to get a book and you certainly don’t have to wait for the mailman to deliver a book you ordered. EBooks know no boundaries and can be purchased or downloaded at anytime from anywhere. Whereas there are several advantages of EBooks, there are certain disadvantages as well. Book lovers who love to browse through bookstores and libraries just don’t like EBooks. Also people who love to lie in bed or on a couch reading a book are averse to reading EBooks. Giving someone a book wrapped up nicely as a gift has a charm that EBooks cannot replace. Also at times, the constant light of a computer screen can hurt the eyes. EBooks have opened up a new avenue of reading and acquiring knowledge but they remain out of reach of a majority of the world's population. As newspapers and magazines have not been overwhelmed by their online copies, similarly, EBooks will never fully replace hardcopies. This can be seen by the way lovers of Harry Potter's series eagerly wait for the latest books to hit the bookstores amongst other top selling hardcopy books. How are Ebooks similar to Blogs?
