Is IAS Coaching is Needed?

Education
Is it possible to clear the IAS exam without attending the coaching classes? It is the common question that is asked by most of the civil service exam aspirants. We have derived answers from toppers to make it clear whether dedicated IAS coaching is needed or not. The answer is Yes! In the present online scenario, it is possible to clear the exam without attending the coaching class. If the person is a hardworking candidate, then it is highly possible to accomplish without the coaching classes.

The aspirants start their IAS preparation in a confused manner. They would not be sure how to begin and what topics to cover. They will be having numerous doubts in their mind about exam dates, eligibility, attending procedure, etc. Most candidates would not even know whether coaching is needed or not. The candidates should not misguided since it can cost a lot of money and time. Most coaching institutes are not aware of how to guide the aspirants in the right manner or according to the UPSC latest requirements. There are several coaching institutes that charge expensive fees and provide low quality training materials and poor services.

How to begin preparing for civil services?

When starting to prepare for civil services examination, remember that it is not mandatory to attend the coaching institutes. It is recommended to obtain good coaching in form of online or offline. It will be helpful to a candidate for gaining proper knowledge and guidance.

Method 1: Online coaching and book- IAS self-preparation path

Advantages:

There are several websites such as clearias.com that provides free IAS guidance, mock exams, and study materials to prepare the aspirants who are planning for self-study. It means studying on own at the comfort of your home which does not cost much or equal to the fees charged by the coaching institutes. The candidates would not have any space or time constraints. It is a suitable and flexible method of learning especially for working professionals and other candidates who feel attending the classroom training is unnecessary.

Disadvantages:

When you are doing self-preparation, you will not be following a systematic method of learning. You would not be able to refer right IAS books, websites and magazines, and prelims mock exams. You would not know which to focus on and how to focus.

Method 2: Classroom coaching path

Advantages:

If you have planned to successfully complete the IAS exam in the first attempt, you should think about obtaining IAS classroom coaching. You will be given coaching according to the latest requirements of UPSC. This approach would help the candidates to follow a right path. Moreover, you can enjoy the benefit of mock tests, peer competition, and learning, analysis, etc.

Disadvantages:

It is very expensive, space and time constraints, not available outside metro cities, misguidance, non-updated strategy, materials, etc. There is no need to worry. It is possible to clear the IAS exam even without classroom coaching sessions. If the candidate is finding hard to attend IAS classroom coaching because of any of the reasons, then there is no need to worry. Several IAS aspirants have successfully passed and cleared the IAS exam without attending the classroom sessions. The only thing that remained common to all the candidates was, they have an idea what to learn and what not and they had right orientation.

Is it mandatory to attend the IAS coaching classes?

Coaching actually helps you in various ways but it does not guarantee you to get a rank. The success of the IAS exam would completely depend upon your hard work, consistency, and self-study. The more and more you obtain knowledge and study from the coaching classes, the more the chances of accomplishing the exam. When you plan to attend coaching classes, ensure to take notes. You should not depend completely on them and avoid reading books. Remember that 25 to 30% of the preparation can be dependent on coaching classes. It is almost like telling a lie that without coaching classes you cannot pass in the UPSC exams.

Some people would put 25% of their own effort and manage to crack IAS exam. It means they have revised the coaching notes and rarely attended the coaching classes. It depends upon your personal trust, self-belief and your level of knowledge to find out whether coaching is needed or not. If you do not feel confident about yourself and wish to get extra coaching and preparation, you can enroll in a coaching center.
