Manchester is a good city for data science jobs now and especially in the future. During July 2018, the University of Manchester announced that it was seeking corporate partners to develop one of its Campuses to become a mixed-use district to attract technology and science occupants in order to develop in areas including artificial intelligence. The university reported that this project could potentially create up to 6,000 jobs and over $2.5 billion in growth during the next 20 years. During the coming years, the city also plans to experiment with IOT - Internet of Things technology to create a smart city demonstrator, after winning government funding in March of 2015. The project will be collecting data on everything from transportation to healthcare, providing lot's of opportunities for data scientists in the city. Currently Manchester offers a fairly low cost of living, higher salaries for data scientists in comparison to other European cities and a growing startup community.
