Panasonic says their TC-P50U2 Viera 50 Plasma HDTV can turn “your movie night a cinematic experience”. Pretty bold statement…is there anything to it? Overall Thoughts & Points From Misc. Customer Reviews: The TC-P50U2 is pretty standard fare for the Panasonic’s mid-price range plasma HDTVs. It boasts 1080p resolution for a clearer and more crisp picture. It uses their 600Hz Sub-field technology to minimize afterimages and make motion on-screen appear not only more crisp, but much more fluid. It does this by taking each of the 60 frames that are shown each second, and further breaking them down into 10 “sub-fields” each. Other great Viera 50 capabilities come standard on the TC-P50U2, including Viera link, which allows you to control virtually any sort of audio or visual device (home theater, Blu-Ray player, DVD player, etc) with just you Viera remote as long as all the components are interconnected with an HDMI cable. (So if you want to do this, be sure to budget for buying extras.) Game Mode will automatically choose the best setting for optimal viewing when playing games, and the image viewer will let you view HD media take on your HD camera – all you have to do is insert your SD card right into the slot on the HDTV itself. Customer reviews on Panasonic’s website, Amazon.com, Best Buy.com, and cnet.com all gave the TC-P50U2 very good reviews – the vast majority gave it 4 out of 5 stars or higher. Most customers were generally very pleased with the picture, though the screen can be fairly reflective if it’s in a brightly lit area. Opinions on the options (such as the number of HDMI ports, LAN connectivity, etc) were mixed – some found them a little lacking in quantity, while others didn’t seem to care. Those that didn’t care usually mentioned that they just didn’t have a need for them, so it didn’t matter. While those that did care went on to say that while they would rather have some of these additions, that they recognized this was a mid-priced HDTV, so you couldn’t really expect all the “bells and whitsles” you’d get with a more expensive option. Across the board, pretty much all customer reviews felt it was a great TV for the money – an outstanding value. The Panasonic TC-P50U2 Viera 50 Plasma HDTV comes with the TV itself, a removable stand, remote control (inc. batteries), and assorted paperwork/instructions.
