Currently, there is an on-going debate regarding the legality of the GPS tracking cell phone because it is said to threaten individual privacy. Since the majority of people today have cell phones, the GPS tracking system can be used to monitor their day to day activities and invade their lives. GPS auto tracker technology is just not the same as that used in cell phones. Depending on the carrier and the type of cell phone tracking device used the location data may be continuous or only available when a location request is made. GPS takes this concept and uses a device like your cell phone or car and uses satellites as the landmarks. Based on how far the signal is away from the satellites relative position in the sky, a computer can figure the location of the device giving off the signal to within a few feet. A cell phone tracking device is a useful way to keep tabs on mobile workers. Service workers who visit people's homes, for example, can be tracked to determine how long they spend on a job (or, of course, how long they spend doing no work at all). Currently, there are about 4.2 million truck drivers who come under these regulations. Twelve percent of these trucks have black box truck-mounted solutions from companies like Qualcomm. Trucking manufacturers might tell how long a trucker has been on the road, if he has taken more than one unscheduled side trips and when and for how long he stops for meals or sleep. Dispatchers may notice personal facts that is none of their manufacturer, such as a driver taking lunch every day at the same address, and it?s not his home. Trucks and the cargo they carry are stolen and the cost estimates now show that the figures are not millions of dollars but billions of dollars. Location tracking is an inherent part of the cellular network, as it needs to know your (approximate) location to do its job. The only way to avoid being tracked, if you're concerned about it, is to not carry a cellular telephone -- at least not one traceable to you. Locations are reported via SMS text message or email. This option allows the user to implement a wide variety of hardware and software.
