Building blocks are useful tools in teaching children. It is easy to teach children through play and these blocks are useful. Blocks with the alphabet on them could be used to teach language skills. Using them they could be used to teach spelling and reading. Blocks could also teach children to count. Line the blocks or pile them up and teach the child to count and teach them what would be the number if one more was added or one was taken away. With colourful building blocks available it is possible to teach colour to children. The primary colours of red, blue and yellow could be taught and then they could be taught that by combining another colour a new one would emerge. So as to substantiate it the colours could be physically mixed and shown too. Playing with building blocks enhances social skills. Playing with friends or siblings will teach the child sharing and the building of relationships. Whilst playing, they should be taught the words please, thank you and sorry, when they interact with each other. They could also be taught to trade blocks when they play so that they could finish their own designs. When buying the blocks care should be taken that they are safe. The materials used should not be toxic and there should be no sharp edges. Since building blocks could be used by babies and toddlers and they could range to the teens and hobbyists care should be taken that the blocks are bought for the appropriate group. In their formative years the blocks are good to develop children mentally, creatively and improve their motor skills. It also teaches them the need and importance of concentration and the attention to detail. Blocks for toddlers should be light and easy to hold and should not cause injury when they tumble. For pre-schoolers , they will start building fences and walls with their blocks and it would be nice to help them along with additional items like animals, people and maybe train tracks. This will develop them in role playing. As the child gets older the building blocks kits get more complex and enable the children to build definite structures. Building blocks are available for adult hobbyists too. These kits have bendable pieces, small motors, other moving pieces, nuts and bolts and some even have small electronic devices. With these kits it is possible to make model cars, ships, trains, buildings or whatever they could think of.
