In case you weren’t aware of it, Space Center Houston is the official visitor center for the NASA Johnson Space Center. They have all manner of out-of-this-world exhibits including Rocket Park, home to the Saturn V rocket, or hang out in Independence Park & see a space shuttle replica. When it comes right down to it, this really is one of the premier places you and your family can spend time at when you’re vacationing in Bay Area Houston. But as with most vacations, you want to keep things fresh and exciting, especially if you’ve got kids. You want to know what else there is to do. If you’re looking for some alternative fun options in the area, here are five that should be top of mind: Nassau Bay Peninsula Wildlife Park — Nassau Bay is all about maintaining the natural beauty of the area, and this 76 acre wetland is the crowning achievement. It may not be a lot of flash, but you’ll hard-pressed to find a more gorgeous natural feature anywhere. Kemah Boardwalk — Get a taste of old-fashioned boardwalk fun and rides, plus restaurants and live music, and don’t forget the scenic views. The boardwalk is iconic to the area, so it is a definite must. Lone Star Flight Museum — This museum began life as a private aircraft collection in the mid-1980s, but through perseverance, hard work, volunteerism, and continued support from the area, the Lone Star Flight Museum has gained a reputation for being one of the top museums dedicated to flying. Main Event Entertainment — Sure, it’s a bit of a chain, but it has a plethora of activities to do for the entire family & even has meal options if you’re looking to keep things in one place & simple. Sylvan Beach Park — It’s a 32 acre park whose beach has fine sand, no seaweed covering the beach, and smaller waves for more enjoyable swimming. Factor in a playground, picnic area, & a fishing pier, and you’ve got one sweet spot. Space Center Houston, the Johnson Space Center, and all that NASA brings to the table are just about everything a family could want in a killer vacation. Still, it’s nice to know that even when the total awesomeness of extraterrestrial travel has passed, you’ve got some really cool places to check out that are fun for everyone in the family.
