For those who have experienced an awakening, there is a strong urgency to assist those who are struggling. These compassionate individuals are often called mystics because they have attained a degree of higher knowledge. Mystics feel a sense of moral responsibility to show weary souls a better way. There exists in the illumined soul a natural desire to want to lift others out of their misery, especially when the mystic knows of a simple solution to a person’s predicament. While it may be true that the mystic has the urge to serve the desperate and needy, the mystic needs to think carefully before taking action. Intervention in the life of another is a decision that should not be taken lightly. While the universe itself is complex, the life of a human is complicated. That is because we make things complicated by being out of balance with the harmony of the universe. Humans in dire straits get to that point by making a string of bad decisions. People become stuck in a pattern of misfortune with which they become comfortable. Fear of the unknown drives people to take comfort in their misfortune. The mystic seeks to help these individuals awaken to the truth. While this may sound virtuous, such meddling can be detrimental to the psyche of the mystic. Having been in the legal profession for 20 years I can attest to the validity of this statement. First, people are not easily awakened. Secondly, people are slow to accept change. It is difficult to impress upon people life changing concepts. A person must be ready to accept this information. When a well-meaning mystic becomes involved in struggles of a dysfunctional person, he is sure to share in that person's pain, and begin to lose himself in the process. Such people have a way of sucking others into their vortex. This takes an emotional toll on the mystic. A responsible mystic knows that one must first assess the person’s troubles objectively and decide if his or her intervention is warranted. At one time or another, we have all leaped before looking. Taking your time to assess the situation will eliminate some of this impulsiveness. It is equally important for the mystic to maintain a healthy distance from the troubled person to avoid being pulled in. No one should ever risk their physical, mental, emotional health to assist another with their crisis. The mystic should consider himself or herself a guide to the lost. We are not to act as saviors, but rather as teachers. If the struggling person does not want to be helped, it should not be forced on him. Many people experiencing personal conflict have a good reason for being in that position. These people subconsciously choose their circumstances to learn a lesson. These battles are actually challenges which people must go through to experience spiritual growth. Growth cannot take place without conflict. The mystic or other helping person has no business interfering with a person’s life challenges. It is frustrating to see a person go through needless suffering, when there is a remedy available. The mystic’s time is better spent trying to reach those that are ready to receive illumination. That does not mean that the mystic should not disregard those who are not ready to be awakened. The mystic must use his or her intuition in deciding whether or not to tread that path.
