Many homes and buildings come with reputations. I sometimes look at the Los Angeles Times real estate section where they announce when one celebrity has bought another celebrity’s home. And I wonder if the new owner will have the same well-publicized good luck or misfortune as the seller. We have a term in Feng Shui theory called the “predecessor law” which implies that what happens to one occupant or family could easily happen to succeeding occupants. The house or building’s energy is powerful enough, and enduring enough, to affect people similarly for decades. That powerful energy which I am referring to is created when the house or building is built. It is a merging of earthly energies from the very soil the structure is built upon with the energies penetrating down from the sun and stars. The roof and ceiling cap the energy inside the structure, like Pandora’s Box, and it can influence any occupant similarly. Is it an easy house to make money in? Or is it the Money Pit? Is it the kind of house where the occupants will have injuries, legal problems or consistent health issues? I attended an Open House years ago, and after speaking with the Seller’s Agent for a while, he revealed that he had been hired by the past three consecutive owners in the last ten years to sell the same house. He didn’t know anything formal about Feng Shui, but he agreed that it was a “Divorce House.” Is there anything you can do to change the influences of the house? Of course! That is why I am a Feng Shui practitioner! If houses and commercial properties had predictable impacts, but no way to alter the energies, then Feng Shui would only be a study in what to avoid and nothing else. And this would not be very practical. While some things are rather “set in stone,” more features than not can be changed with color, elements, décor arrangements, landscaping techniques and how a person uses a room, for what activities. I have worked with some clients now for over a decade and have seen them “marry” the same house type, or at least be attracted to the same house type over and over. And my job is to steer them away from that “dysfunctional” relationship that feels so familiar…like the house you grew up in or the parents who raise you. And by having educated my clients so well for so many years, this is why many rely on me in their house hunting process. Last year I came out with some e-books to help realtors, architects and house hunters find, buy or build an inherently better house or business, which will have a positive influence on current and future occupants for decades to come.
