If you are a constant business traveller, it is not always easy to stick to healthy eating options. Time spent on planes and in hotels tend to leave you eating out a lot, and not necessarily choosing the healthiest of options either. If you are piling on the pounds faster than you are racking up the air miles, it is time to consider more healthy eating options when you are away from home. If you know you have some flying time coming up, pack some healthy snacks into your briefcase before you get on that plane. Trail mix nuts, fruit, popcorn and vegetable slices can all be easily bagged up and taken with you. They can also double as a breakfast treat if you are running out the door and are late for your plane. Do not resort to what the airline is offering for a meal as they generally don't offer the healthiest of choices. Instead take your own and enjoy a fresher alternative. If you do get stuck in an airport due to a flight delay or a lengthy layover, don't opt for the quick dinner choice of yet another burger. Instead, find a salad that can be topped with some grilled chicken and a light vinaigrette. A wholemeal wheat bread sandwich with deli meat and salad ingredients is another more healthy option. Broth based soups are a third. There are plenty of better alternatives to fried food, you just need to look a little harder. When you are in an all day meeting and stuck at the conference table, do not automatically reach for the donuts and pastries that are piled in front of you. If fresh fruit is also available, then chose a piece of this instead. Alternatively, you can grab one of your own granola bars or trail mix selections that you previously put into your briefcase. While you're in that meeting, leave the sodas alone. These are filled with sugar that do not give the body anything valuable except an extra fat layer. Instead choose carbonated or still water as your drink of choice. If you are really craving something sweet, have a cup of coffee with a hint of creamer added to it. That contains far less calories than a can of soda or a glass of fruit juice. When it comes time for some lunch, a wrap or wholegrain sandwich should be the meal of choice. Lots of lettuce, tomato and cheese topped with a slice of roast beef or ham is a filling and very tasty meal. If you have the choice of a side, ask for a fruit or pasta salad rather than grabbing a bag of chips. Sushi is another healthy choice that is available everywhere and great to eat while on the run. Containing fresh seafood, rice and sometimes vegetables, this is a very tasty lunch when on the move. Just be careful that you don't overdo it with the soy sauce as this has a high sodium content. Just because you are travelling on a regular basis, there is no excuse to eat badly all the time. While it may take a little more forethought on your part before you head off to the airport, you can still eat healthy and nutritional meals while you are away from home.
