Whenever you are writing an address for postal mails and other purposes in India there is a set of numerical digits that will come at the end of it as a Pin number. This numeric digit which is termed as “Pin Code” further assures you that the address is complete and accurate. This is an abbreviation of the Postal Index Number that is allocated for every address within the country. India is a vast country with wide expanses between its boundaries. For a proper and efficient understanding of its different zones, states, regions and provinces the use of Pin codes in India has become exceedingly helpful and popular in the years since 1972 when this was first started. If you are thinking that the allocation of the use of Pin codes in India are done in a random manner you need to read on. There is a process of segregation and allocation based on which this is carried out; it makes for an easy and quick identification of the place that has been referred to within an address. You may be led into thinking that the name of a city or state will anyways give out the idea for the region of the country; but there are districts and individual streets the names of some of which even appear twice in the same city. In all such cases, it is the use of Pin codes in India that helps to zero in on the exact location and address. As far as the use of Pin codes in India is concerned you will see there are a total of nine zones within the country; out of these, nine there are eight zones that signify a region within the country and the ninth one is a functional zone that is exclusively for the Indian Army. The first digit of the Pin code signifies a particular region of the country; there is a sub region which is indicated by the second digit of the series of numbers. The third digit stands for the sorting district where the mails will go to within each region. The last three numbers stand for a post office that will be nearest to the address. It may be noted here that within each region and sub-region there are several post offices and the last three digits help to identify them very easily. The use of Pin codes in India is very essential considering the geographical extent of the country and the demographic ratios of each zone. There is a humungous volume of mails, parcels, postal deliveries and couriers that venture to reach out to the people at the earliest.
