I am not saying that guest posting is bad or all guest posts are spammy. All I am saying is that the tactic can be dangerous for your web marketing strategies, if you don't understand the delicate intricacies of it. Expert SEO consultants say, many blog owners hesitate to accept guest posts nowadays due to a) poor quality of content b) irrelevant and low quality links. 3 Reasons that may hurt 'guest posting' tactic - Having low quality links: Google and other major search engines despise poor quality of posts. For instance, if your website thrives in low quality links, then you are in for trouble. In the post-Penguin world, you just CANNOT have low quality links in your site. A blog owner will immediately reject your request for gust blogging, if he sees that there's too much of spammy links in your site.
- Posting only to acquire links: Author rank is equally important. This allows Google to see where your posts are getting published and how well it is doing throughout the web. If you continue to write good content, well and good. Google will put more weight on your content irrespective of the site you are posting on. But, if you are churning out content low on quality, Google will eventually track it and will devalue the links in your post. Not only that, they will also devalue anything you link to if they find out that you are guest blogging only to acquire links.
- Again, the link factor: A guest post with a rich anchor text link within the first paragraph is not recognized by search engines. That link will be immediately devalued.
How to ensure that your guest post gets accepted? - Comment on quality articles: You can catch the attention of blog owners by commenting on quality articles. Ensure that you are posting in authentic and established websites. Now when you pitch for guest posting in other sites, chances are that you will be accepted by blog owners without much difficulty.
- Study the guest blogging site before you start posting: Go through the terms and conditions of the website carefully. Study the guidelines carefully and then start posting. Any post not adhering to the guidelines set by the website may get rejected. That also creates a bad repute for the writer.
- Avoid spammy sites: While choosing a site for guest blogging, ensure that the website doesn't link out to spam-infested sites. Understand that the main motive is to provide readers authentic and unique information.
